There is/was a known issue where having 2 video cards installed can cause a conflict resulting in this erroneous message. Do you have 2 video cards in your Mac? If so try removing one and see if the issue is resolved.

If I am going to use a properly configured hardware legalizer on my output (for whatever reason) then yes, I would leave the (software) broadcast safe off and let the hardware do what it does best.

April 11, 2009 at 4:11 pm in reply to: Change entire reel from hard cuts to cross fades…automate or script it?Once you’ve run the DV Start/Stop Detect then twiddle open the disclosure triangle and drag the Markers to the timeline, then you can use QuickKeys or similar macro app to automate the trimming and adding a dissolve at each cut point … have a look at the free “Spark” app from ShadowLabs, or “VideoMacro” from VideoToolshed.
If, for example, you set the following macro to a hot key, then on each hotkey press it should scoot to the next edit point, trim each side and add the default transition. Set it to repeat and it should do a whole timeline

Scavenged files may sometimes work and sometimes not … what may be perceived to be a valid file container to the typical recovery software might be either complete rubbish or perhaps only a part of the file, and /or the contained data may or may not contain a valid structure or index that would make it recognizable if actually “opened”. If these masters are irreplaceable and if all else has failed then you may need to look to more specialized recovery means such as the “Treasured” app and the skilled and manually intensive “Movie Repair Service” … both are offered by AeroQuartet: https://aeroquartet.com/
Good luck

Open XDCAM Transfer’s Preferences window and under the Import tab uncheck the “Open imported files with (Final Cut Pro)” option. Now your imported clips will just import and not also “open” (in FCP)

1) is there a way to only capture 2 audio channels instead of all 4?
In the XDCAM Transfer app preferences window, under the Import tab, there is a checkbox for “Only import monitored audio channels” .. you can change the monitoring on a clip by clip basis under the Information tab of the main application window (lower righthand pane) … you can set the default monitoring setting in the XDCAM Transfer app preferences window under the General tab.
2) i can’t seem to find a way to rename the discs…and yes, i’ve slid the thingy from “Safe” mode. Is there a way to do this?
Again In the XDCAM Transfer app’s main application window under the Information tab look in the Source section … there is a Name field where you can name the disc.
3) is it now concievable to edit with the proxies (to maybe speed up editing), then replace with the real stuff before rendering? honestly, the full XDCam files load and play fine on my timeline, so i guess this doesn’t really matter much.
Sony/Apple have not exposed a smooth means of doing this with XDCAM/FCP. There are ways and means but none of them are worth the trouble.
4) i will be adding HDV footage to this project as well. would i do well to convert everything to ProRes or something before starting the actual edit? i was planning on capturing the HDV footage as DVCProHD
Converting all your footage to a single intermediate codec makes a lot of sense, but no, not worth converting the HDV only to DVCPROHD in order to incorporate it into an XDCAM HD timeline, that just adds unnecessary compression cycles. HDV and XDCAM HD mix extremely easily in the same timeline with FCP6 (absolute nightmare in FCP5).
5) does it matter if all the thumbnails have loaded and updated themselves onto the capture screen after first invoking XDCam Transfer, or can i just go ahead and say “select all” and “import”? it SEEMS to not matter, but just making sure if anyone has seen a problem with this…
In earlier versions of XDCAM Transfer you had to wait for a clip’s proxy to download to the local drive before you could start to transfer the high res for the same clip … that is no longer a restriction. You’ll be just fine importing without waiting. BTW Cmd-Opt-I is the shortcut for Import All Clips

Hey Dan
Nope, no need to recapture what you have already … although their physical storage on the tape differs somewhat, the two formats share the same (DV) codec. Once captured its all just DV.
Cheers

Sounds like you have the DSR-11 set to record in DVCAM mode … in DVCAM mode, tape runs faster (DVCAM-28.193 mm/sec vs DV- 18.8 mm/sec) so a typical 60 min DV tape when used for DVCAM will last only 40 minutes.
The answer would be to switch the record settings to DV.
