Closed Captioning embedded on HD
Posted by Dan Nethery on April 10, 2008 at 7:24 pmDoes anyone know of any kind of software that will embedded CC on to an HD project. I’m using a kona 3 card to my HDCAM deck. We are paying another company to provide the caption file. I would prefer to do it in FCP instead of going though a box.
thanx, dan.

April 10, 2008 at 8:09 pmYeah I’ve spoke with them on the phone, they say that there product doesn’t support SDI connections. I that I’m going to have to spent a bunch of money on what ever I get. I’m just hoping for a simple solution….

April 10, 2008 at 9:07 pmThey support SDI we use it all the time and have had no problems. AJA, Blackmagic do not make any of the HD-SDI Vertical Ancillary data area other than that part which contains the active video available through a software API. It’s really in AJA or Decklinks court.

April 10, 2008 at 10:49 pmContact CaptionMax. We use them for all of our captioning work. Really easy folks to work with and the prices are definitely reasonable.

April 17, 2009 at 12:54 amSomething which is missing here:
There is no CC for HD defined!!!
Except you got an Omneon Playout Server with some special software and a matching broadcast chain and some receivers which will work with this special setup.

Did you ever discover a working solution? If so, what is it. I’m about to output an HD project with CC through a Kona 3 as well.

June 18, 2009 at 7:01 pmNo, I have been emailing and calling Aja for the lst year . They are like Sony… “just a few more months” and still nothing. Contact Jason at MacCap… They have an HD solution… and their cap software is the best I have ever seen. We have sent 10s of thousands of $$$ on caption gear.

I’ve heard good things about MacCaption. MacCaption allows you to output to an HD tape format?
