One (free) way is to use Jon Chappell’s Preference Manager app as a project launcher for your FCP projects.

Thats odd… the link is still working for me, maybe its a browser cache thing at my end, sorry.

Anyway the software is called XDCAM EX Clip Browser and its currently at version 2.5 .. Sony’s product code for the software is XDZ-P1. Search Google for XDZ-P1 and you should turn up plenty of download links … here’s one:

David, all the regular standard def DV based codecs are lower field first regardless of PAL or NTSC flavor.

That folder you are opening up, the one that contains the CLPR and TAKR folders … that folder IS the BPAV folder … if it has been inadvertently renamed then rename it as BPAV. Now drop that folder into ANOTHER folder and then point XDCAM Transfer at that new containing folder.

If that still doesn’t work then you have probably hosed the BPAV folder’s integrity so you;ll have to rescue the contained MP4’s manually. For that, go grab Sony’s Clip Browser app. With that you should be able to individually access the MP4’s in the CLPR folder and rewrap them as MXF files which XDCAM Transfer will properly access.

Heee… I should imagine this little nightmare will serve as a good lesson to always verify workflows before you jump in 🙂

Put the BPAV inside another folder first. Give the parent folder a suitable name. Now open XDCAM Transfer and Add that parent folder not the BPAV folder itself but the parent folder that contains the BPAV folder. Does it see the contained clips now?

Alternatively, download and install the XDCAM EX Log and Transfer plugin for FCP (PDZK-LT) from here:
https://www.sony.ca/xdcamex/software.htm
Then use FCP’s own built in Log and Transfer interface to access the BPAV folder an import the clips to FCP.

If you’re finding that managing your project settings manually for each project is impractical then you might want to check out Jon Chappell’s excellent (and free) Preference Manager helper application. It allows you to associate specific settings on a project by project basis by using the helper app as a FCP project launcher. Might be just what you need for your edit environment.

Chris, IIRC its simply because FCP doesn’t preserve closed captioning data on rendered footage … and of course the instant you crop your video it needs rendering.
