Codec Problem: Flip phone to FCP; sound no picture
I have media from a “flip phone” saved as .AVI files. When imported into FCP and placed in the timeline, a red screen reads “Codec could not be opened.” On the computer where these files were originally captured, the media plays fine in the viewer, but drops sound when played on the timeline. On my computer, after converting them with MPEG Streamclip, the picture is black but the sound plays. How can I resolve this?

If MPGStramclip can’t display the picture is because you don’t have the codec necessary.
Try with ffmpgx. can open many flavors of AVI, MP4 and strange things.
Google for it.

change the file extension to .3gp and see if that helps at all

After downloading ffmpgx, it required three other programs before it could run,and provided the necessary links. The first link took me to a page of code with nothing to download. The other two links worked. But without that first prerequisite, I couldn’t continue. ?
And I don’t know how to change the file extension to .3gp aside from just renaming it. And that didn’t do anything. ?

I think you don’t really need even install those Binaries.
Just try if ffmpegx is able to export the file to any other format.[Riley O’Bryan] “And I don’t know how to change the file extension to .3gp aside from just renaming it. And that didn’t do anything. ?”
Just write the extension in the end of the name.
