It’s my understanding that the speed benefit’s of running the 64bit kernel are pretty small, since osx is capable of running your 64bit process on the 32 bit kernel as well as access all your 12GB of Ram.
If your app is written in 64bit and your processors are capable of 64bit it will run in 64 bit regardless of what kernel you have booted. The downside to running the 64bit kernel as you have discovered…all your 32bit apps stop working.

All CS5 plugins need to be 64bit. CS4 plugin’s are 32 bit so they will not transfer from one to another. You will need to update your plugins.

They are not available in the free trail version of After Effects but they are included in the full version. Are you running the trail version?

February 3, 2011 at 8:15 pm in reply to: WorkFlow Advice with Green Screen Footage and After EffectsI have used this free little script from Popcorn island with a lot of success moving projects from FCP to AE.
https://www.popcornisland.com/2009/03/final-cut-2-after-effects/
Generally I will do all of the editing first, and then copy and paste all of my green screen shot’s into a new sequence so that I don’t have an AE project with a bunch of shots I don’t need.
Then export an XML and run the script in AE to import. The benefit to this workflow is that AE re-links to your original media, and eliminates the need to render each clip out separately from FCP. If you need additional heads or tails then it will be available to you in AE.
Once I have my composite’s finished I run this script https://aescripts.com/rd-render-layers/ so that I can easily render each keyed layer in the comp independently to it’s own PR422 clip.

Double check that it’s in RGB color space. A YUV PSD will import as you have described.

What codec within quicktime are you using? QuickTime is just a container for a myriad of different codecs. Pixel motion should definitely be on, although that does not sound like that’s the issue.
If you’re using multiprocessing or Open GL when rendering, turn it off and see what happens.

What type of footage are you working with? Do you have frame blending set to pixel motion? The default for frame blending is off

December 7, 2010 at 5:58 pm in reply to: Have Final Cut Pro 7 as a file on our server plausible?Awesome tip. I just ripped the first install disk, went really fast and appears to work fine. Have 6 suites to upgrade this week and this will be a huge time saver. I also love the thought of having a backup of my software in a format that’s not going to get scratched!
Thanks-

Seems to be working for me and im not Java savey enough to determine what the error is referring to.
Here is an after effects project file where I linked a null to the flare using the expression. It’s created in CS4 that should open in CS4 or or CS5.

You can tie them together with an expression.
Name your null object “Flare_Source”, make sure 3D is enabled for it.
Now after you apply the flare effect to a new layer, Add this expression to the flare center attribute:
thisComp.layer(“Flare_Source”).toComp([0,0,0]);
