Thanks guys. I’m looking through these options as well as a few other solutions.

I may end up keeping it very simple since we don’t need switcher functionality, really just a straightforward way to send these feeds to a monitor.

Since the 5D only has HDMI out, I may just end up using inexpensive computer monitors with and HDMI input. The only downside is it’d be one per camera unless I used an HDMI switch.

Sorry, I was out of pocket for awhile there…

    Tim,
I appreciate all the info. Next time we upgrade one of the suites I may opt for another card and just modify the text file.

    Gordon,
Thanks for sharing your 4800 experience. It definitely makes me feel better about going that route for the time being.

Now to get back to troubleshooting the original reason for this thread, Mercury Engine not recognizing the card. 🙂

    David,

I haven’t had a chance to resolve the issue yet. Overnight renders and busy days in the middle of projects make it tough to break away for troubleshooting. 🙂

    Ryan,

I’ve heard good things about GTX 680, but I’m in the same boat as David, and am wanting to utilize the Mercury Engine. I’ve heard that you can trick Premiere into accepting cards that are not officially supported. Any experience with this?

Thanks for the info Ryan, I should have posted that. Both Macs are 5,1.

Good call Tim. I’ll check to make sure I fully seated the aux power cable on the card, and if that fails I’ll swap cards with another editor this evening.

    Hopefully it’s something that simple.

Has this issue resolved for everyone else?

We are having this same issue on three different machines. We’re running PP 6.0.2, no GPU acceleration enabled cards, and working with 5K RED raw.

I’ve tried deleting various pref files, running disk permission repairs, standard tests for corrupted clips/projects, etc.. They issue will appear to be fixed, then randomly pop back up with no apparent reason.

And to clarify, the problem I’m having is that when I initiated playback the sequence does not play, but the button indicator does change from the triangle to square. PP does not crash or lock up, it just never begins playback.

August 2, 2012 at 2:26 pm in reply to: Epic .R3D support?

    Thanks Jason.

I did a test and the proxies are produced very quickly in Red Cine X. I assume it’s just re-wrapping the media into a QT container.

Perhaps this feature will be included in a future CatDV update.

    Same question here.

So is there no native R3D support? As Jason mentioned, the Epic does not create proxy files. When I try to import an R3D directly, CatDV says “Failed to show media (Xuggle not installed)“.

July 20, 2012 at 10:44 pm in reply to: Newly Created Folders Disappear

Sorry for the delayed response guys.

I should have been more clear. I’m not trying to create an OS-level folder on the server. As Bryson deciphered, I’m trying to create the virtual folder within CatDV. What I want the end result to be is the ability to browse the server catalogs in CatDV, and see the virtual folder tree as follows:

    Server/Catalogs/Client/CatlogFileForProject

“Client” would be a folder I create (one per client), and with each client folder there will be a catalog.

Thanks Rolf. So it looks like I need to create a catalog first, then create a folder and quickly drag the new catalog into that folder?

    March 6, 2012 at 3:02 pm in reply to: Encoding an H.264 that’s 2765×768

Thanks Sathish. I tried using FFMpegX with no luck. I need to learn to use the command line version.

I didn’t realize that After Effects is now licensing the Main Concept H.264 encoder, so I was able to encode to it straight from AE, but in an MP4 container. It only adjusted the resolution by one pixel.

Hopefully I’ll hear back from the venue today that that resolution and MP4 container work.
