I’m a new CatDV user, so perhaps I’m missing something simple here, but I did see another COW user talking about the same issue.

When I connect to the server and try to create a new folder to store a catalog the folder disappears, but I am unable to create a new one with that same name because it says that folder already exists.

I’m running CatDV 9.0.6 Pro in conjunction with version 6.6.0 of the Workgroup Server. The client is running on OS X 10.7.4, and the server is running on OS X Server 10.6.8.

You don’t make a folder for a catalog on the server. The sever “holds” the catalog inside the database on the server. If can save a local catalog in a folder if you want, but it won’t be referred to on the server’s database.
CatDv will also read the media in any folder you point it to. So that’s a folder you create ahead of time. But it’s for media.
I often make copies of a catalog and save them in Dropbox so I can call them up remotely. Plus they’re a backup.

Non-linear: all the time and nothing but.

Catalog “folders” are actually just part of the catalog name. If you have a catalog called “My Projects/Catalog1” you will see a folder in the tree called “My Projects” containing “Catalog1”. If you delete Catalog1 then the My Projects folder will also disappear (unless there are other catalogs in the same folder of course).

When you create a new empty folder it just sits in your tree as a placeholder, so you can drag catalogs there or create a new catalog in that folder. As soon as you refresh the tree it will disappear again though because empty folders don’t really exist as such.

Robb, you can make folders in the “Browse Database” window in CatDV Server.

It’s a virtualization mostly used for organizing groups of catalogs in the db for browsing, just like you’d do with an actual file catalog in the file system.

It’s accessed from the Server menu in the tree by right clicking on a production group’s name.

These folders show up in the Browse Database area but they are most effectively accessed from the Tree where they can clean up a long catalog list greatly for “Tree Browsers.”

Ah, yes. But is that what he’s talking about? To me it sounded like he was making a directory somewhere so he could store his server-based catalog there. That’s what I was talking about.

Sorry for the delayed response guys.

I should have been more clear. I’m not trying to create an OS-level folder on the server. As Bryson deciphered, I’m trying to create the virtual folder within CatDV. What I want the end result to be is the ability to browse the server catalogs in CatDV, and see the virtual folder tree as follows:

    Server/Catalogs/Client/CatlogFileForProject

“Client” would be a folder I create (one per client), and with each client folder there will be a catalog.

Thanks Rolf. So it looks like I need to create a catalog first, then create a folder and quickly drag the new catalog into that folder?
