Hurrah! ^_^ Will try it out immediately.
Had discovered the usefulness of holding in CTRL recently, but never used ALT as well before – so cheers. =)

I usually export as either by ref or self contained, then I add it to a batch list in Cleaner, and convert to a wmv 256k Streaming file (288×216 movie size) – the only parameter I change is the gamma, which I up by 30% to accomodate for movies looking darker after encoding. Most of my edits are 5 minutes, and come out at about 10mb, which is really easy to put online or send to someone for a quick check.
    Example:
    https://www.unitedgames.co.uk/files/wiipreviewclip.wmv
    (13MB file – 7 minutes footage)

Nah, I export from the edit suite all the time, and never select force render. I select “Render all” instead.

When I export a program or range, to a self contained or by-reference movie, usually for converting in Cleaner, a dialogue box appears:

“Some items you are about to export need to be rendered. Do you want to continue exporting?”

    Followed by two radio buttons:
    o Render All
    o Force Render All
    [CANCEL] [OK]

I’ve always left the radio button at the default “Render All”, and then clicked {OK] but have always wondered what the difference is.

Are you recording straight into the system, or recording onto tape first?

  • Have thought of an idea to negate the need to do this, and still achieve the visual effect I want.

But it might still be interesting for future reference to know if it’s possible to import and export video with transparent areas in them for layering in programmes such as Boris and After Effects.

I can export still pict files from Boris, that maintain a straight alpha transparency in After Effects, for example. Just wondered if it was possible to do similiar with video, and maintain transparency when you export or import.

I have a P6000 board, and 7.5, so there should be a serial number to have it work with 7.5
And again, you should be able to get it through customer support.

I work in PAL so have never tried digitising at 640×480, as I always use 720×576. I’ve always been able to digitise in component however, even when I had my old Vincent 401 board.

A quick look at a table online:
    https://www.media100.com/Media100i_Features.asp
…shows Component i/o for all versions bar i/DV and all versions supposed to be capable of 640×480 square pixel input.

Infact, let me just check mine…
Yeah, there’s an NTSC 640×480 option. It’s grayed out for DV, but becomes selectable when I select an analogue input such as component.

Just ask customer support for a serial number for 7.5 with a P6000, and you should be okay (I hope).
If not, come back here, and some other people ought to be able to help you out, if I can’t.

Btw…the “Tune Up” upgrades you to the last releases in the Media100i series, both on OSX and OS9. And the full XR version with lossless compression enabled.

Also, if you have 7.5 there’s a free upgrade to 7.5.1 on the media100 website. But I’d get your card working first before upgrading software.

You might get some ideas from this earlier thread.

(Perhaps pay more attention to Kieran and topher than some of my dodgier comments)

In my experience, it turned out to be that the default text track was giving a solid black background instead of showing the video beneath.

I just got rid of it, and put any video on a new video track.

    But I have M100 7.5 on OS9 and Boris FX 6.01
So it may be something different.

Yeah, M100 Customer service is the way to go.

I upgraded from a Vincent 601 to a P6000 via Ebay, and needed a new serial number.

I wrote to M100 with my old number, and they replied with a new one for me. No charges or anything, which was great. =)

Although that was back when M100 was owned by Optibase, I’m confident they’d still be willing to help.
