Am still on 7.5 in OS9, but I never usually bother with moving a CTI. I just cut a clip where I want a still, double click on it, click “Freeze” in the edit suite window, entering a desired clip length if I don’t like the default 10seconds, and apply, and then it sits in my bin ready to use.

Probably looking at a G5 or an Intel Mac Pro.
Would love to get a MacBook Pro, M100 Producer, and a Z1, but, since HDV isn’t yet ready via firewire, I doubt that’s a reasonable workflow. Although I could use my existing PD150 with M100 Producer and a Macbook Pro, I guess.

Storage wise, not decided, but despite HD aspirations, I’ll probably just start off with Firewire drives for SD.

I guess I started this thread really, to see what cameras people were using for HD, that worked well with M100. So that if I didn’t go for a Z1, what other options were there? Like, I heard a lot about P2, via M100’s press releases boasting compatibility. Would a P2 camera be better?

Just wondered what setups people currently had.

To be honest, atm, even a Z1 is ambitious budget wise for me. ^_^ If I had that sort of money, I’d probably get a M100 HDe….lol. But, I have rented a Z1 for specific jobs on two occaisions already, so it’s still a nice idea. =)

I guess to really simplify this thread though – I’m mostly asking what M100 setups people currently have, and which cameras they use in conjunction with it, and how well they work with M100.

As for NAB – am based in the UK, and a bit broke atm, so unlikely to fly over anytime soon. ^_^
But since winning second place in the Best of Boris competition (yay!), I’ve been thinking about what hardware I need to save up for, in order to run my free software prize. =P

Plus I get a new job in the next few weeks, so should finally start receiving an income. =P

Or I guess I could just have FCP on the same system, and import digitised footage from there into M100, and then back out again if need be, via FCP?

I know you’ve got the Convergent Design thingie…but had feared it was just one-way. And it’s a bit pricey too. =P

Still looking forwards to HDV, since all my peers have been using it since 2005 with FCP, and I quite fancy the idea of covering E3 with a laptop, Producer, a HDV deck and nothing more. ^_^

Back to the subject of reviews though – and the review itself admitted to being subjective, with those testing it being old M100 fans. Whilst it’s clear M100’s strategy has been to get its old users back onside, and as I can see, that’s working quite well, I nonetheless long to see it reach a point where the product is strong enough to go before the likes of that genius Macca again, 😉 [Sorry, David McCandless is one of my writing role models] – but by which I mean any skeptical, cynical, mainstream reviewer/writer/journalist, and stand up to scrutiny as a viable alternative to FCP and Avid.
Obviously, myself a M100 fan, I’m happy to wait till M100 is in a stronger position, before it gets more publicity, so that those wider reviews prove exceptionally positive, but I’m just indicating how I look forwards to a day when the phase of converting old M100 users back into the fray is over, and Boris can begin to concerntrate marketing on new users, and competing with FCP and Avid. Not that either of those competitors would stand for it, ;-). Heehee…but for now, I’m just talking about reviews, and getting review copies to technology writers.

The TV Technology was a good review, and nice to read, but hasn’t delivered an objective form of critical acclaim.

Of course, with free trials, and being an existing user of the legacy version 7.5, I do already have some idea of what it’s like, and the intention to upgrade is most notably there, even if the budget for doing so is not (don’t forget I’ll need a new Mac, new After Effects, new everything…=P), but an independent review still scoring the system well will surely signify a potential return to the glory days. ^_^ Even if the software, thankfully, no longer costs £16,000. ^_^

Since I’m still using old versions, I found aspects of the old download archive invaluable. Whilst streamlining is good, I miss the fact I can’t search the old downloads at the moment, and hope you’ll find room for a link to legacy downloads on there somewhen soon.

Yeah, I hurt my balls by sitting on a wooden dining room chair with a protruding ridge in the middle, when working on websites.

Very important to make sure you get the right chair then.
Due to problems inflicted earlier from crappy chairs,
the only chair I can sit and work on is a deckchair with a flexible plastic, that tilts downwards, so there’s no pressure in that area.

I did briefly experiment with a Salli Multiadjuster stool, which is like a horse saddle, albeit has a gap in the middle…so supposed to be kind to blokes, but I think I needed a junior Salli stood, as am only a small guy, and the damn thing stretched me a bit, as it was generally too wide for me.
It is adjustable though,
and you can make it tall enough to almost be standing, if you want.
And it’s supposed to be good for your back.
Am looking to sell mine if ya’ fancy it.

Atm, I find my old plastic deck chair the most comfortable though. Even if I’ve had to take it to the blacksmiths twice now, for mending. ^_^
