No, but you can send an EDL, which is a little more basic but does the trick.

I’ve seen it too. I think it’s just a 5.5 thing. Not worried me a great deal, but would be interesting if anyone knows what causes it.

Avid is not qualified to run on 10.6.8, but does work fine on 10.6.7.

There are a number of other options.
If he’s using MC4 or above then he could just open the bin from the 30fps project inside the 25fps project and Avid will automatically add Motion Adapters to convert the framerate (in a way it deems best) when he edits into a sequence. This will not affect clip duration.
Another alternative is to import the footage as QT files after typing “IgnoreQTRate true” into the console. This will speed up or slow down the footage to convert it to the framerate of the project.

July 26, 2011 at 8:25 am in reply to: AMA stutter on playback in Source Window and Timeline playbackI have edited an entire feature using AMA (from P2 cameras) and only ran into very minor problems using MC4. But it is very much dependant on the codec of the files you are linking to and performance of your machine when linking to QT files. So far I have been impressed by it when linking to QTs that have come from FCP, and have heard of alot of people using it to edit shows shot straight to ProRes. I also just edited a feature shot on RED and found that you really have to have a beast of a machine to get any decent playback and you are still going to want to transcode (although this might go away with 64 bit in the new MC) or convert with one of RED’s own utilities.

You need to point it at the RDM folder (to bring in the whole reel) or the RDC folder (to bring in just one shot, rather than the contents of the RDC folder. That should just bring one clip per shot.

As the fade effect utilises the opacity parameter within the title effect itself, it means you are only processing 1 effect rather than 2 or 3. So renders will be minutely faster using the fade effect. But that is really the only difference.
Oh and its also a little quicker to apply to to all your titles. Just select them all with the segment mode tool before you do it. Adding transition from in to out might be more cumbersome because you might want the transition at the beginning and end of the title aligned differently.

It’s a case of choosing the slow and safe option or the fast and notsosafe option. I’ve used the drag into the MXF folder and delete the mdb option alot to put training material onto student machines and never really had any problems. But I wasn’t working with masses of media, just a relatively small amount.

Thanks for your help guys. I suspected this was the case but just wanted to clarify in my own head. I suppose the benefit of bounce is that you can often get a bounce much further from the subject than the light itself, thus reducing the effect you are describing of small differences in distance, affecting exposure quite a bit.
Cheers.

Yeah, Animatte is the way to go here. Softness can only be added to the horizontal or vertical wipes, not the diagonal unfortunately.
