Yes…we tried window manipulation opening, closing, opening log and capture (which it wouldn’t allow because the edit to tape window was supposedly ‘open’ which it wasn’t).
Ultimately what cleared it up for us was a complete reinstall of OS and FCS, which is horribly lame. FCP also is having a HORRIBLE time communicating with our XSAN (a WAY overpriced storage and shared workflow solution).
We’re now moving toward a totally tapeless environment, so laying to tape may be a thing of the past. It won’t be missed.

Has anyone found a resolution for this issue? Its suddenly started happening on my EX1r. Full battery yet I get a battery error code to change the battery.
I’ve only had my EX1r a short time and its taking years off my life.

This is not a unique problem. We are having the same issues on our systems too. It started happening after upgrading to Snow Leopard and FCP 7. Like you, we have all OS, software, and capture card drivers up to the minute but when we select edit to tape, it engages for a moment then nothing happens.
FCP acts as if the edit to tape is running when it isn’t. What fixes it for us is a complete trashing of preferences but that is really lame. EVERY time we want to lay to tape, we have to re-enter all of our fav effects and re-navigate to our keyboard and window arrangement prefs.
This is happening on our Quad and 8 core systems. We are using Blackmagic HD Decklink cards while utilizing shared workflows on an XSAN.
Hopefully this issue gets worked out. Its just a pain to have to trash prefs everyday.

This thread is about a year old at the time that I’m writing this, and its amazing that Apple has yet to do anything with the marker functionality in Final Cut Pro. Just another area where Avid is more powerful, and I hate to say that because I favor FCP. Nevertheless, my work around is a bit hoakie but it reduces the time of massive marker adjustments one by one, that is adjusting them BACKWARDS on the timeline when some ridiculous producer has asked for a last minute ‘cut’ after you’ve already secured picture lock, which throws all of your markers FORWARD from the point where the first cut takes place. Another disclaimer, this works for about 30-40 marker projects if you have a greater number than that, and you are finding you need to mass adjust them on a regular basis, you probably should just get an AVID, as this technique I use, whereas still tedious, does reduce the time of marker adjustment for me. OK, here goes
On the original sequence (where the markers are placed correctly) I select all (apple-A) where all clips on my sequence are selected. With ‘snap’ on, for the playhead, I start at the first marker and create a new marker on the clip (m) the clip MUST be selected or it will just put another marker on the sequence itself which we don’t want. Then using my customized Apple shortcut (my shortcut is ‘shift+ right arrow) to jump to next marker, where I hit ‘m’ again to put another corresponding marker on the clip, I jump to each next marker, quickly putting a corresponding marker on the clip itself each time until every sequence marker now has a corresponding marker on the clip.
I duplicate the sequence make my annoying “after the fact” edits (that are usually due to some producer’s failure to plan or decision-making on the fly-but thats a different thread) and now I’ve got a “properly” edited sequence with jacked up sequence markers all down the line starting from where the first edit took place.
Now, I deselect all clips (apple+A again) and I select “Delete all markers” from the mark – markers – pull down menu. (or the shortcut ^ ‘ ) Because all clips are deselected, this will only delete all of your jacked sequence markers but the markers you put on the clip(s) will be left intact.
Starting at the first clip marker (using snap on the playhead for frame accuracy), Proceed from marker to marker on the clip(s) and hit ‘m’ which, when no clip is selected, will put a marker on the timeline/sequence that will correspond to where you had them in the original sequence. It STILL is a tedious practice but I find that I can jump through an entire sequence with 30+ markers fairly quickly.
An important thing to note is, to utilize the “next marker” shortcut jumping from marker to marker on your clips, you must select all, and then deselect all when you create your timeline/sequence marker. Otherwise the jump to next marker shortcut will only jump to the next marker on your timeline (which you would have deleted already using this system) and not to the next marker on your clips.
There it is. It might sound like a lot of work but using the shortcuts, its about 3 keystrokes, marker, 3 keystrokes, marker on down the line.
Hopefully, I’m not too late with this pure GENIUS, and all people in this thread have not died of old age. If you have, you’re probably in a better place where you’re editing with software whose developers still care about pro apps and haven’t moved on to cell phone technology.

This rendered for me, however, I got a really really bad looking jittery effect with the plugins that were refusing to render prior to the change to 8 bit yuv. Anyone have any ideas on how to remedy that or am I just screwed from using those on my system?

January 31, 2008 at 12:37 am in reply to: Error: Operation Not Allowed Out of Memory. What to do?!Yep…We’re running FCP 6.0.2 and have had a recent ‘rash’ of these error messages. We’ve discovered that a photoshop file with alpha was the culprit. The first few times we added this flattened psd file to the timeline it was fine, after a certain number, the scary red screen popped up saying “Operation Not Allowed” and then the less scary but nevertheless intrusive “Error: Out Of Memory” started taking over our system. We were able to isolate a bad PSD (CS3) file from using the same file in two projects on 3 different machines with the exact same result.
We resolved this by quitting out of our FCP project (click do not save), we went to our attic and pulled up an earlier auto save, deleted the psd file from the project entirely, converted that PSD file to a pict file retaining alpha in a separate channel and then imported the pict with alpha into our project and it seems to be working so far. If I have any further issues/solutions in this area I’ll be sure to post those as well.Las Vegas Video Production

I would hold off on your purchase until February when Sony will be releasing the Z7u with more features than either camera + the best of both worlds. The Z7u has the imaging quality of Sony with the interchangeable lens capability of the Canon. They have a shoulder mount version S270 that will be released at the same time.
Both the Z7u and the S270 record directly to CF cards (standard feature not an upgrade). I priced out CF cards yesterday and found a 16GB card for $100 and a 32GB card for about $200.
