With TextEdit use Open… , click Options and select UTF-8.
But 3PlayMedia files should work

Make sure the SRT plain text and is UTF-8 with Unix LF.

Best choice these times is to use a service to create a DVD/Bluray for commercial use.
A simple free alternative for DVD: https://www.dvdstyler.org/en/

You don’t need 3rd party app, just duplicate the srt caption and apply an scc role to it in FCP.
Big question though is whether it makes sense to create ssc at all.
It really depends on the DVD/Bluray app which should use the subtitles and the way it will embed the subtitle stream to make it compatible with players.Spherico

You may try another font.Spherico

No ????It just indicates you are using Drop Frame timecode in your project.
I’m not at a machine with FCP but I think in the effects inspector you can select a user TC instead of Source/Project, though this doesn’t make sense.
You can switch to “Frames” – this will work with any timebase.Spherico

•[Olga Busch] “Thank you very much for creating this great XTE tool! I tried the new XTE title x-title tool lite edition, but I cannot get it working.”
So I’ll try to help.
•[Olga Busch] “I followed the instructions in the video and downloaded XTCC/XTE Mojave. “
The video is a bit outdated.
You should download the actual one anyway *):
https://www.spherico.com/filmtools/TitleExchange/XTE/XTE.dmg•[Olga Busch] “There is no floating window where to drag the project with the CC, so I exported XML from FCPX 10.4.6. “
By default the main window is a floating once when the app is activated, it switches back to standard behaviour when a conversion is done.
Maybe you have turned off this behaviour in the preferences:

But regardless of these setting you always can turn on/off this by pressing ‘ctrl-T’
[Olga Busch] “When opening in FCPX I get an error message.
Do I need to make certain settings in FCPX before exporting the XML?”
This can happen under certain conditions. Not every caption/title relation can be resolved in any case.
So the “Known Issues” part of the website says:
‘In certain situations subtitles(captions) in FCPX have to be in a “subtitle only” project.’*)
since 10.4 with every version there are some XML bugs more obvious, some are added and with 10.4.7 a new one is there. The latter one isn’t only a XML one but could happen while working with certain titles.

Hello James,
I don’t see any real problems here with the ‘internal’ ones unless you use FCPXML for interchange files or export of SRT – but no crashes
Also DH_SubtitleX seems to work fine here.An option for you (free) could be my TextUp Motion title(s). But it has one issue with XML import as well – or better FCP 10.4.7 does have an issue ????
To read about this FCP problem read here:

https://www.spherico.com/filmtools/TitleExchange/Plugins/TextUp_2018.dmgThe usage of the effects is described here (PDF):
