Maybe you could try to make a copy of your project, export the scc, delete the actual captions and re-import them.
Another option make a compound from the project and apply the captions to this.

Different from PPro FCP locks caption to “clips” which can cause problems,

    [Dan McGuire] “This BBC page
seems to be saying I need a ghost box, and also that my srt files should be
“Arial Narrow Latin 45A 1080, with the ghost box and no outline. ”
How do I create a “ghost box?””

Could you give a link to this page?
Standard SRT doesn’t contain font, outline nor any other info beside html color and style settings.
    Maybe you misunderstood.

Search for some VTT tutorials on the web.
Position is set by instructions which follow the time info.
    example: 00:00:07.883 –> 00:00:12.054 line:95%

Font size is set in em somewhere in the css. But I can’t recall how it is done.

[Alan Langdon] “Do you know if one donation gets full usage of both XTI and XTE?”
    Yes.
[Alan Langdon] “And do you know if this donation amount is negotiable”
    No, not anymore.
You can still work within the limits and split/join the captions.
There are other apps for less money (or free services) which do allow to convert SRT to titles, all of them with less options but they may work for you.
You’re “fighting” with these kind of problems since nearly 1 year – imagine the savings you would have had since then ????

XTCE, XTCC and TitleExchange are all marked as not Mojave compatible.
They are still left as backup solutions for customers who still use High Sierra and below.

XTCE, XTCC websites lead to XTE (and XTI) as actual versions.
Those run fine without “several error messages” ????

TitleExchange is a format converter app which won’t cover FCP special conversions. So it’s not recommended for your case.
XTI let you import quite a bunch of formats into FCP either as Captions, Titles or as DH Subtitle Generator.

I never succeeded to burn-in captions in Compressor – nor did anybody I know.
The problem in your case might be the multi-channel QT, but I’m not sure.

In any case give the XTE a try. You already spent so much precious time, it won’t matter.

    Hmm,

    Should work.

I mentioned my XTE. The app (or better the first version of it) was covered by a Ripple Training video

June 28, 2019 at 11:34 am in reply to: importing .XML subtitles to Final Cut 7

This is a Digital Cinema Interop XML – not a FCP XML.
FCP legacy doesn’t allow to import subtitles. You need a 3rd party app like my TitleExchange Pro.
