You can use TC In, TC Out, text but I even would go further and say use TC In, Text only.

You probably have to touch each caption anyway, the translator not. Typing timecodes also are known to error prone.

So if you go the simple way TC In, tab, text

The detailed way: TC In, comma, tab, TC Out, comma, tab, Text (Spruce STL)

The translator doesn’t need to type comma, tab – just tab. You have to replace all tabs with cmma, tabs.

I normally do recommend Jubler as well, but often enough translators don’t want to “mess” around with subtitling software.

Otherwise Isa probably wouldn’t have asked here since the translators would have suggested it by their own 😉

    Hi Isa,

Let me reply here (instead of reply to your mail).

First supply the translators with videos which do have burned in TC starting at 00:00:00:00.

The files the translators return should look like:

TC, tab, Text (chapter file format)

This is the easiest way for timed transcripts.

Then you can use one of my X-Title apps to convert either to SRT or FCP SRT. You have to set the out for each caption though, but from my experience it is the fastest most effective way when working with translators.

If you only want to merge video (mp4) and srt into 1 file you also may try the free Subler (https://subler.org)

If you are on a Mac you can use my free S4T to strip SRT timecodes.

  • Have you tried to use QT Player?

Beside the sound, why don’t you use SRT with this amount of languages. These will always stay in “their language track” above all lanes and keep the connection to the audio/video clip they belong to and easily can be turned on/off. This is way better than in PPro or FCP Classic.

You always can convert them to Motion Titles for the final version or “proof prints”.

    Kyle,

When you want subtitles you have differ between closed captions and open captions.

Closed Captions are not part of the ‘video picture’ but live in additional language tracks either automatically shown by the player or can be switched on or off by the user. There is no way to set font or font size. Color and style may be possible or not – depends on player. Position also depends on player options, there might none or limited options.

Open captions are burned into video. You can use any Motion Title (template) to create your special subtitle appearance.

As Ben said above there are services like Rev, SimonSays, speedScriber (for Non-English) and more that allow you to get timed transcriptions. These can be used with/inside FCP as SRT Captions. SRT captions behave as kind of Open Captions.

To convert them to titles – with all style options – you can use for a 3rd party app. For example my X-Title Extractror.
