last project came in in sd i ended up upscaling everything in hd because of several
weird davinci behaviours :). if you have a teranex try it, this way you have the control
of the upscale, and nowadays it is very likely to be upscaled anyhow…

    hi luca,

with dpx you can easily create proxies within resolve since the very beginning via prox manager in the media tab.
and once your san is fast enough, you should face no problems.

April 18, 2014 at 9:11 am in reply to: Film Restoration?

    hi jordan,

i would say no. davinci is a great piece of software, but mainly for color correction/grading. originally
the whole restoration tools were a separate software software package, so called revival. they implemented
some small things from that software, like dust and scratch removal, but only to a certain extent. i never
used it, but i know it only works right now with dpx footage… davinci has great up-/downscaling algorithms
but if you also need deinterlacing, field-reversal stuff you can’t do this in a proper way. (unless you buy their
teranex unit, which can do some of those things).

i would say take a look at nucoda filmmaster, they are planning to make the software available for about
2000 dollars i’ve read lately. further investments in some of their plug-ins might be useful for restoration
    work!

just my 2 cents, perhaps in the next version of davinci they will implement more restoration features,
would be useful, now that they have launched film-scanners, but for now…

last project i used the take selector for all vfx
shots. handy to compare, but still manual
    work.
you could also change the source folder in
media pool to the new folder.

did you try it with another software (redcine eg)
so you know it is a davinci problem?

ghosting can appear on certain situations…

too fast jumping from clip to clip can cause this. i am on ml and 5.28 and sometimes it happens as
well to me. i guess it happens to everyone from time to time, doesn’t it?
