I think you’ll have to trick your way around it with the layers rather than the light. Maybe duplicating with one to not receive lights and another to cast shadow only. Maybe using.. can’t remember the right name now, when you turn on the adjustment layer switch on a light

I have no knowledge of scripting and am very green at expressions. In the end we cut down the comps. We’ll save time on the voice syncing and spend that on editing later!

Masking round objects or people is called Rotoscoping and can be quite time consuming. Luckily there’s the rotobrush in CS5 that can make it easier and sometimes does incredibly stuff with transparent bits, like motion blur. How well it works might depend on the background though.

that’s odd. To me this works just the way I want (CS5).. and I’m actually ridiculously content about learning this shortcut!!

the only other things I could think of is the volume of thelcomp being turned down OR
that the comp layer has been set as a guidelayer.. in which case you wouldn’t see it in the comp it’s nested in anyway.. -
What about CustomEffects? Maltannon.com looks into that in some tutorial. Might be useful..

Whoops!! Forgot to get back to this thread.
No it’s not hard. It’s just time consuming. Had a lot to do other than opening the PDF file at the right page and resave it as an AI.
Done by now though.. -
Yes, I had a look at that one but figured I didn’t get any of that. Learned helplessness..
when you mentioned it I figured I don’t need to understand it and just addedif (n % 2 ==0) {100}
else 0to the end. And that did the trick. Hopefully I get around to understand the beat counter later.

If you’ve got CS5 Freeform will be included. I guess with that you’d be able to do the most realistic movements, but it will probably take quite some time to get it look right too.
Otherwise, I would maybe try two instances of the page-turn effect – one on each side and once I have the motion I like move it in 3d space too.
