I have a bit of a dificulty understading what you are trying to achieve. Do you have any reference images, WIP, sketches?

I wonder if CC Sphere would be the right approach..

“At worst” you could use the “omino snake” plugin. It’s free, but won’t be vector sharp, but it would be quick

    “Pt Effects Search” Script..
Seems maybe a bit pricey for what it does though.

    Works like a charm!!

I was butchering together the two expressions like Frankenstein and got a “time out while waiting for engine” as a monstrous result.
Your solution works perfectly. Thank you so much!!

So that ended up working for you in the end?

A completely different method, that Harry Frank did, (I believe) was just a line, displace it with greyscale gradients distoring the line with Displacement Maps and then using Polar Cordinates to make it a circle.
Probably would be a lot slower though.

No idea if you can attach videos. Have not been active here for two ! years!

I found I achieved a similar result with a shape layer:

Make two circles. Top copy I set to 2 points larger than the bottom one.
The bottom one I added a Wiggle Paths. Size 76, Details 86, Smooth Points, 0 frequency (For example..).
And below all that Merge Paths in Add mode.
    Lastly a Stroke…

Was gonna see if you could add several Wiggle Paths to create smaller and larger details, but then After Effects stopped responding.. 🙃

Yeah, nebula is taking some time to be released.
I would not need it for my line of work.. or maybe I could..hmmm
but it looked so good it’s a must have 🙂

So proud to have meet the man during his “Europe Tour”.

If that doesn’t work. How about trying with Trapcode Form?

What I usually do, copy the mask change the size of the solid, and paste it again. A circular mask will remain circular, and not turn into an elipse, like if you would have resized the old solid..
It’s ok if you only have a few layers, but if you have lots.. it’s no the best.

Alternatively, you could use the old solid as a track matte for the new solid.

maybe there’s even a script out there to do this..?

  • Absolutely no difference is not quite true..
I’m simulating a film flash with Fast Box Blur and levels on top.
Changing the histogram on the levels takes 3 seconds to update, while with Fast blur it would have been instant..

Can’t understand dhow fastblur can become obsolete.. It did just what it said it did..
