    As far as I understand the disappearing bit is done with rotoscoping. You’d have to figure out which parts to mask out first so it looks accurate. Imagining it like an object being submerged in water might help visualize the mask. You know – how water flows in from the edges over flatter surfaces..

    Making the reflection accurate though.. If I’d do it, I’d film the scene with two cameras at the same time one being for the reflection.

    Without 3rd party plugins- “CC light burst” on a circle split in half with the desired colours. …Why not even use two light bursts and add a lensflare on top!

    With 4rd parteh plugins – trapcode shine.

    This is pretty basic, and I guess it’s just a matter of taking basics knowledge and applying it to a style you like.

    The only thing that is happening there is motion tracking and animated masks more or less. If you’re really aching for tutorials look at videocopilot, there’s lots of motion tracking there.

    But please bear in mind that tutorials are not the solution for everything. This demovideo looks like it’s partially made up of tutorials, and there’s not much merit in that.

    June 29, 2010 at 2:46 pm in reply to: Evenly spacing multiple objects in 3d space?…

    I haven’t used the align function much but on occasion I’ve used a tiny bit of expression to distribute layers in z space.
    in the position I’d write something along the linens of..:

    i=index; /* which takes the number of the layer and in case of it being the fourth layer it would be index-3 in order to make the number i=1..*/
    valZ=i*300; //each layer will be multiples of 300px deeper into z space
    [value[0],value[1], valZ]

    If you want to space it vertically, just do it for Y and use the height of the images you want to stack. “Copy expression only” and paste to all layers involved..
    Also add sliders to make it easier to adjust things later if need be..

    i=index;
    valZ=i*300;
    [value[0],value[1], valZ]

    I know two tutorials that could come in handy for you. One is by Harry Frank at Gray machine, called “reverse shatter” which basically uses an expression to distribute each layer to a random position and return it to its original position over time.

    Or one from AEtuts called “Distribute Your Layers in 3D – Custom Effect” that uses a custom effect made by Rob Schofield.

    Both are very useful techniques to learn!

  • Thanks,
    I found the preference file. It was full of blank characters, whatever they are.
    I tried to RTMF’nM but didn’t find the right info – didn’t look in the right page. But I realized I should have saved all my templates!!
    ‘ll do after I recreated them all..

    Cheers

    February 14, 2010 at 1:33 pm in reply to: toComp problem with parented camera.

    Hi Dan, thanks for your reply.
    Yes the beam is applied to a 2d Layer, and that works fine.

    The rig for the camera, which I got of Maltaannon.com is 4 nulls, parented to each other. So I use the one axis of per null to control rotation. Last null has controllers.
    When I then use the controllers my objects move around but the beam stays put!

    For now I got rid of the rig, and just made a simple track backwards, but for complex moves I’d need a rig so I’d like to know why that doesn’t work.

    thisComp.layer("sphere_Business1").toComp([400, 400, 200])

  • No… not yet (although I don’t know whether it’s worth getting one just to play around with it. Might come in handy in the future!)

    I did see a “Avermedia AVerTV HD DVR PCI Express Video Capture Card”
    for $98!

    I’ve only recently learnt about this 4:2:2 ..compression. So I’m really curious to what result I can get. Maybe the camera’s manual holds that answer – or would it be a combination of the camera and the capture card?

  • Cool!
    Just checked and the camera here has HDMI output. Really want to give that a try!!!
