I have unplugged and plugged a couple of dsr11’s for years without any problems whatsoever. The DSR11 is not a very good player, it has problems with the mechanics, and it wears down quite fast, but nonetheless, I’ve had no firewire related problems.

The dsr45 is a MUCH better player, but costs quite alot more.

I work in a company that produce broadcast stuff all the time.. realityshows etc..

We ALWAYS save directly to our xraids, but use the internal disk for the autosave vault. We have zero problems with that. We work with dv, dvcpro50 and uncompressed SD material. (no hd yet)

I sometimes get the same thing, but on both macs with or without decklink cards. Can’t remember the solution now.. was it reinstalling quicktime ?

  • You were absolutely right.. I ended up doing the downmix on both 1-2 and m&e on 3-4. The sounds is still a bit strange.. but after listening to only channel 1-2 on my digi it sounded ok.. so I hope everything will work out.

    Thanks for the help !!!

[Zatoichi] “There’s no render time in Avid, which, for me, is a HUGE plus. Much time is saved.

What ?? I am working on avid pro and I have to render everything. Even importing a qt dv film gives me rendering while this takes no time in fcp. FCP uses quicktime as native format which is a HUGE bonus. If you want to critisize FCP you have to use valid arguments.

Also, if you’re buying a home editing system, bear in mind that part of what your paying for in a Mac is the shiny, sleek metal box encasing the computer system. The computer’s pretty, but the price isn’t.

A valid point is that you pay for everything working quite smooth. Our avids at job doesnt even work with the scrollwheels on my mouse.. This might be a conicidense.. but our macs just work.

Yeah right. If you say tomato etcetc.. then I would have to say that FCP is for the new generation, while as the avid editors will all die out in 10 years..

    Hey. I didn’t start this !!

We have 8 seat FCP/Xsan system that is used everyday to cut reality tv shows for broadcast tv. No hazzle.. we don’t even have an own tech guy to look after the system. It just works. Extremely easy to figure out
