Thanks George! Very useful and succinct!

Generating a list of files via exporting another copy of the project seems clunky and time-consuming.

December 28, 2016 at 4:02 pm in reply to: Any way to get a list of edits applied to a sequence, not a clip?Dear Simon, Thanks for the reply. I’m still not understanding you.
What does the EDL refer to?
Here’s my EDL:
TITLE: EDL_v2
FCM: NON-DROP FRAME001 Semantic_2016-12-19.mov V C 00:13:28:00 00:14:00:00 00:00:00:00 00:00:32:00
*FROM CLIP NAME:SEMANTIC.MOV002 Semantic_2016-12-19.mov AA C 00:13:28:00 00:14:00:00 00:00:00:00 00:00:32:00
*FROM CLIP NAME:SEMANTIC.MOV
AUD 3In my PPro project, “Semantic_2016-12-19.mov” is an imported single Quicktime of the final edit. In the same project, the final edit is a sequence called “Semantic_Edit_v999”.
I want to use the in/out information in this EDL, but not use a .mov (or clip). If I change the EDL to refer to the sequence’s name “Semantic_Edit_v999” instead of “SEMANTIC.MOV” PPro asks to relink the media, and is looking for a file, not a sequence.
Put another way, I want to use the EDL to make a new sequence by using in/out points on the timeline of a older sequence, not a new sequence from choosing in/out points from a pile of clips.

December 6, 2016 at 4:05 pm in reply to: What is the name in After Effects of a stand-alone, programmable interface? Thanks all for the ideas and moral support. ???? I think that Watch Folders are similar in concept, but they work with an AE or PP or file that is already a movie. My aim is to make something so he doesn’t have to open AE. I guess I will write something with ffmpeg, instead.

November 25, 2016 at 7:10 pm in reply to: A way to copy the project name (not a clip name) in Premiere Pro?Thanks Joe!
Another way I do it (outside of PP) is to open a Terminal window and drag the file there, where it will display the full path. But I was wondering if I could stay in PP and get the full path on a clipboard. Because from there, I want to paste into a spreadsheet of my sequences and projects (it’s a really large project). To get the sequence name, I can “rename” or click on it and press Return, then copy the name. But the project name seems elusive!

I want to tidy my project. I sorted clips by “Video Usage”. Several clips did not have any use. When I select them and press Delete” I get a warning. (see pic1) And I continue, because I would like to trust the “Video Usage” information. But some clips still are deleted form an open sequence. (see pic 2) Seems not at all the behavior I expected. Note that I’m using CC2015.2.
And I still would like to make all instances of a clip in bin just point to one master instance. I didn’t find that ability in 2015.3. Maybe I missed it, or there’s a workaround.

This was the most useful suggestion for me. Sometimes adjustment layers are cumbersome for me, because I have a few cameras. Some color grading will be shared among the video tracks, and some grading isn’t.
