I ended up having success editing with stills once I stopped using the IoHD and production monditor.

Thanks for your help. I guess what I’m wondering is if I work in Prores, it can be color corrected and output to HDCam or HDCam SR (or whatever the network wants – I couldn’t find the specs on that link) without anyone complaining about quality? I think what you’re saying is yes. I agree and love working without any upres, just want to make sure that no one has room to complain down the road. I’m working with some people that are very used to the old school process and want to be able to convince them that this is the way to go, but I don’t have the tech knowledge to prove it to them.
I am not sure what format we’ll be shooting. I’m guessing HDCam 1080i60 or whatever the network would prefer.
    Thanks again!

So to “decompress” my jpgs can i just open it in photoshop and “save as” another format? I will try some system maintenance as well.
    thanks

increasing the stills cache helps somewhat, but just means that it takes a little longer before fcp slows down again. Should I use a file type other than jpeg maybe?

That sounds like a great idea! I will do that and see how it goes. Thanks!

I just opened a bunch of them in photo shop to check and all the ones I checked so far are RGB.

My stills are on my media drive, which still has 2.3tb free.

My project is HD (1920×1080, 23.98fps) so I need very high res stills. Our different sources have given us all different file sizes but some of the larger ones are 1800×1204, 1500×1062… around 1.3MB, 580K, 1018K, etc.
    Thanks

i agree with your favorite phrase. This is why I”m asking this question. My canvas is 16×9…working in 720×480, anamorphic. I would do what you are suggesting, but when the film is about a photographer and so much of our film has stills, its important to see if the way we are using them is working. Thanks.
