My digibeta deck doesnt seem to play betacam sp tapes, it simply ejects them. I tried connecting the kona cables directly to the betacam deck but that didnt work either it gave me an error ” tape trouble.check VTR, do not attempt to eject tape or use transport without checking VTR first.” I’v tried every cable combination and dont know what to do now. the tapes are Maxwell B-60ML BQ betacam sp. Like I said I have preview on the NTSC monitor, its plugged into the uvw-1800’s output.

I’m trying to capture betacam tapes going through the digibeta. I just changed the rgb cables from the digibeta in to the betacam out( as the kona cables are connected to the digibeta) and now have video signal in the FCP capture window. However no audio. The xlr cables are connected from betacam output ch 1 and ch2 to the Audio input ( ch1 and ch2) of the digibeta.
Digibeta on component and betacam on composite
Please excuse me if i type absurdly, its been a long night.

Hi David,
The Z1 does 480i and a 1080i/480i component, as i connect it to the widescreen monitor for live-view. But it doesnt have sdi, hdmi out. Only firewire, s-video and component.
We already went for a free demo of the Tricaster, the HD version and its just under $ 15000 and not within our budget.
Just went through the list of switchers you provided, even the JX-S777, but it looks like a home theater system more than a video switcher.
Looks like we are stuck.

Thanks for your quick response Russell.
I do use QT Conversion for the rendering procedure. I also forgot to add a few “minor” details .Sorry,. Here they are.
1)The rendering happens on Macs.
2) The QT files are transferred onto the server
3) the files on the server are transferred onto a hard drive (formatted for windows xp), connected to a windows xp machine.
4) The drive is shipped to a different state. Protectvie box says “do not x-ray” -
no stills, only the text layers, but i have always used them and renders have been fine. The only thing i can think of is that I had saved the same file with 2 names, one”old” and the other “final” in the same place with the same scratch disk and render file location. I deleted the “old” fcp file ( not the cache files) one to avoid confusion. but it shouldnt have made a difference as the other “final” file was saved and was the only one i was working on.

Also you might want to check if the DF is checked in the seq settings.

Do not trust QT frame counter. I learnt that from one of the experts here. I had a similar issue. Use vlc player or some other mov player to check, you will find there is no problem, also import the rendered sequence into fcp and check length.
