Guess I should have checked before “mouthing off”! HA HA I see where the ‘new’ Spinrite 6 does work with NTFS now. It is a great program and I highly recommend it. I’m glad they now support NTFS formatted drives.
Steve Gibson’s site has been at the top of my favorites list for years.
Soprry again

Hi again
It’s VCR mode not VTR and usually it’s on the same switch where you turn on the camera. Like (off-VCR-camera) and maybe one other setting.

Better Chrck Spinrite. I purchased it when I had Windows 2000 and I found out that it don’t work with NTFS formatted HD’s. Only FAT. They may hae changed the program but ask before purchasing.

I have 2 Maxtor Personal storage 200Gb external HD’s here. I also get that “delayed write faiulure” message once in a while, but I don’t get any noise from the drives. Usually I just pull the firewire plug and re-insert it and the message goes away. The 2 drives are daisy-chained together.
I’m thinking one of the 1394 cables may be going bad. If that don’t work I just re-boot the computer.
In your case with all that noise, I think Gary’s right.
I just use these for storage and don’t capture to them. I’ve lost tons of video before using an external drive for a working drive, especially with these Maxtor’s. My capture drive is internal.
Only time I use an external drive for a working (capture) drive is with my laptop and I’ve never had any problems there.

You don’t have to render to PTT. If the TRV is a miniDV it should have a VCR mode so you can record to the camera from an outside source. In other words you could connect your camera to a television with analog (RCA) cables and record to the tape in your camera. Or firewire from the computer.
Just select the entire timeline and go to the tools menu and select “print video to DV tape”. If you have a firewire connection to your camera Vegas should be able to control the camera. If it’s analog then you’ll have to start recording manually. Camera mode won’t do it.
I can’t seem to find any information about the “DCR-TRV-7E” googling the internet so I can’t help you further with that camera other than the E means it’s PAL.
I have a Canopus ADVC-100 analog/digital converter so I can PTT to a VHS tape. That’s a manual operation meaning I have to start recording manually on the camera before hitting the start button in Vegas. Vegas give you a 10 second couonter for doing this. For my digital work I use the Sony GV D1000 “walkman” editing box. Before that I could just connect my Sony VX2000 and switch to VCR mode. On the VX2000 VCR mode is what I use to play back my digital tapes or record to the tapes from an outside source.

February 5, 2006 at 1:15 pm in reply to: CAN YOU REMEMBER YOUR FRUSTRATIONS AS A ” NEWBIE ” ?One of the best ways to learn Vegas is to purchase Gary Kleiner’s set of training DVD’s. That way you can watch and learn or just follow along. I’m sure there’s other training DVD’s available, it’s just that I have Gary’s and I think they’re great.

Also search this board. There’s a we4alth of information and help right here.

Hi
Sorry, but IMO you’d be ripe for some of the eBay “scams” I just read about either here or in another forum. Be careful. You’re not going to get much (again IMO) for that money. Anything MiniDV decent is going to cost over $500 and probably in the $1000 range. You may want to look at some of the stores like Best Buy for “open stock” stuff that carries a good discount.B&H on the internet has used stuff. Again be careful.

CAmtasia I would think. But isn’t there a upgrade pay feature in Google Earth that would allow you to save an animation? I got the freebie also.

Wow! Thanks Ed
Another way I was just looking at is that Buff Titler. I saw one I liked there, but I’m going to try your suggestion first.
Need to composit my background graphics/video first though as it’s going to take a lot of tracks to get that all correct. Then I’ll render it out to AVI so it’s all on one track and then work on the actual title.
Ha! You’re up early too? Well, now it’s 8:15am in Chicago area.
