PTT
Posted by Vegasarian on February 12, 2006 at 7:48 amCan anyone tell me (a) the difference between template – DVD PAL and template DVD Architect PAL Video Stream when rendering MPEG-2 and (b)I’m trying to Print to Tape…Camera is connected through same firewire cable as original capture was done, switched on to ‘Camera’ and tape in. Device Setup window is greyed out and in Options/Preferences/Print Device I have set the device to ‘OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394DV’. Details window tells me…’Hot pluggable device’ and ‘Device unavailable’. Camera is a Sony DCR-TRV-7E.

February 12, 2006 at 7:52 amThe ‘regular’ DVD template also renders Mpeg audio. The Video stream does not.
You don’t want your camcorder set to camera mode. Set it to VCR.
BTW, you can’t print to tape using an Mpeg codec.

February 12, 2006 at 12:27 pmYou don’t have to render to PTT. If the TRV is a miniDV it should have a VCR mode so you can record to the camera from an outside source. In other words you could connect your camera to a television with analog (RCA) cables and record to the tape in your camera. Or firewire from the computer.
Just select the entire timeline and go to the tools menu and select “print video to DV tape”. If you have a firewire connection to your camera Vegas should be able to control the camera. If it’s analog then you’ll have to start recording manually. Camera mode won’t do it.
I can’t seem to find any information about the “DCR-TRV-7E” googling the internet so I can’t help you further with that camera other than the E means it’s PAL.
I have a Canopus ADVC-100 analog/digital converter so I can PTT to a VHS tape. That’s a manual operation meaning I have to start recording manually on the camera before hitting the start button in Vegas. Vegas give you a 10 second couonter for doing this. For my digital work I use the Sony GV D1000 “walkman” editing box. Before that I could just connect my Sony VX2000 and switch to VCR mode. On the VX2000 VCR mode is what I use to play back my digital tapes or record to the tapes from an outside source.

February 12, 2006 at 1:42 pmHi again
It’s VCR mode not VTR and usually it’s on the same switch where you turn on the camera. Like (off-VCR-camera) and maybe one other setting.
