I just received Ty’s book and am reading it. It’s quite good. There is another which I also have, “Instant Digital Audio” by CMP books, but don’t buy it from CMP. You can get this one cheaper from Amazon. That’s also a good book.

Best thing about Ty’s book is it’s small and wire bound and can fit in your pocket when you go on location. Well worth the money.

First off, I wouldn’t use Norton if they gave it to me and paid me to use it. Back when Norton actually owned it along with Norton’s Utilities for DOS 3./5 and up it was the greatest. (ha! showing my age!)

As mentioned above it’s a resource hog, big time. Also been known to trash computers after a year or so so figure on re-formatting your HD. At least that was the way it was in Windows 98 days. I dumped it before upgrading to W2K and now I got XP.

I used NOD32 by ESET for years and touted it as the best. However they did a major change last year and I didn’t care for it personally.

Now I use AVG free. Best thing is AVG does NOT affect Vegas at all for me.

Anyway why pay when you can get a good one for free and IMO anything’s better than Norton.

As Gary says record directly to the Vegas timeline. On the Audio tracks there’s an ‘arm’ button and a ‘record’ button. Connect your microphone directly to the mic in on the sound card and use the standard windows audio/recording tools to control the volume.

My first ‘dub’ was made using a $2 microphone and surprisingly, came out just fine. Now I have a AT-2020 mic for my voice over’s. The AT2020 needs phantom power so I run it though my mixer.

Don’t try to record the entire script all at once. Do it in paragraphs.

Haven’t studied the mic’s but if the Beyer M130 is stereo, then I should need only 1? I’d plan to connect the auxiliary mic’s to my Marantz PDM 660 which has 2 XLR connections plus phantom power. I have 2 stage stands with short booms. For the main subject, I’d use either my wireless system or the AT897 on a boom pole to the camera. Currently I have the Sony VX2000 with the Sign Video XLR adapter.

I noticed on eBay a while ago that someone was selling a new PDM670 with a free Rode NT3. I didn’t purchase it because I got a better deal on the 660 that came with 2 boundry mics. Quite a savings as I didn’t need all the features of the 670. PCM/WAV and MP3 mono/stereo is all I needed. Sometimes for my video work, I convert the Wav to OGG for use in Vegas Video.

When I do my technical railway video work, I use the Shure SM11’s taped with gaffer’s tape outside the window to pick up the ambient sounds.

Thanks for your reply. I can only say WOW! Never heard of these before. A little too pricey for my wallet though. What’s toward the bottom of the food chain then?

What about a Samson CO-3 or Beyer M130? I’m trying to gather information and somewhere I heard about these.

Yup! Gary Kleiner’s DVD’s. One for V5 about 5 DVD’s in the box and one for DVDA-2.

There’s another available from another company, but not having seen them I can’t comment or compare.
