Hi Jan
Thanks for your reply. I’ve been using the Sony VX2000 for 4 years now. I never recall recording ‘camera noise’ using the ‘on-board’ mic or ever hearind any camera/motor noise. Yes I do use external mic’s for most applications including the Azden wireless (both handheld and lapel) as well as my AT897. I also have 2 Sure SM11’s and a Sign Video XLR adapter. As a backup and sometimes primary recorder I use the Marantz PDM660.The on-board mic on the VX2000 has never given noticable (to me anyway) camera noise and I do use it mainly for background ambient audio.
So you can understand my ‘fear’ after reading that post.
Also I’m not sure about the low-light capabilities of the DVX100B.

Oh-oh
Spent a lot of time last night on the DVXuser forum. Quite a noise problem with the 100 series. I’ve never had this with the VX2000. Especially the “on-board” mic recording the noise. 4 pages of posts there.https://www.dvxuser.com/V3/showthread.php?t=42885
This may change my mind.

I see in the specs that the DVX100A and now 100B shoots 24p – 30-p or 60i. Is the 30p similar to the ‘normal’ DV that my VX2000 now shoots?

I thought about HD but the majority of the stuff I do still goes to MPEG-1 and onto a multimedia CD. Also the Expense of getting into HDV or whatever seems to be fairly high and looking at all the supposeded problems with V-6 here on the forum, I’m inclined to stay away from it. As well as the fact I think I need some HD converters or some other hardware? Don’t know a thing about it and wasn’t able to attend the seminar when it was here. Darn, I’m still trying to figure 24p and 30p and i. I know the numbers are FPS and the p is progrssive i = interlaced. That’s about it.Borjis, thanks for your imput. No I’m usually not in controlled lighting enviroments, in fact it’s just the opposite. For what I do we must time the sun and time of day so we can get the entire video in 1 shot. Don’t have the luxury of shooting parts today and tomorrow or splitting morning and afternoon.
I’m sort of leaning toward the Panasonic unit but as I said above, 24p – 30p What’s that. I can’t have the “cine film” look. It’s got to be sharp and crystal clear. Does that Panasonic AG-DVX100A shoot normal mini-DV? 29.97fps?

Hi Dave
Oh Yes, in your case with the BetacamSP master you were correct. But for Wayne and me, it isn’t any problem.Walking through customs with my VX2000 was a breeze and they didn’t even ask to see it but with Betacam 3/4″ you should have a permit, which I understand is easy to get especially if you’re doing work for a Chinese company.

I deal with China all the time. My wife is from Shanghai and we have a home there. I send DVD’s and VCD’s all the time and have never sent a PAL version. I did send a VCD once in both PAL and NTSC version and asked them which was better. The reply was no difference.
Unlike here in the USA I find the players and TV’s in China will do both.
Is this a commercial DVD or “home movies”. There’s some truth about what the post above says but if the client is sending 1 or 2 to family I wouldn’t worry too much. If customs does open it and find objectional material, they’ll just destroy it. I never had that problem.

As Mike says above. Then go back and render to AC3. You should then have two files. Your video and the audio. When you drag the video into DVDA-2 the audio will automatically follow.
