First, stay away from Pinnacle. After they bought out Dazzle, then totally destroyed the program in favor of their own, and sorry I don’t remember the name they used. We all got an email trying to get us to “upgrade” to their own software. NO WAY!

I’ve had the Canopus ADVC100 for years and love it. It does a fantastic job. That’s what I have my external monitor connevted to.

However one suggestion, especially if you have a lot of old VHS tapes to capture. Spend the money and get the next up 300. It’s around $300 at B&H, and also has a TBC (time base corrector) which is an added plus for capturing/restoring older VHS tapes.

I guess I’ll just have to use my vDTS software until I get a new camera. I think the Sony PD170 does it and I’m sure the 5100u does.

Burn a high quality MPEG-1 to the CD. Should be better than VHS but just lower than MPEG-2.

I have 2 of the external WD “My Book” 300GB Firewire/USB drives and so far I love them. I use them for video storage. Any video I’m working on goes to one of the internal 250GB drives.

I had bad luck using the Maxtor One-Touch and editing video in them. ONe of the drives lasted just over the warranty and crashed.

Anyway it all fit. 4h 30m on an 80gb HD. Didn’t take up much room at all.

Never worked with a hardware MPEG encoder before. It’s from my new PVR connected to my laptop for recording video from TV and my satellite dish.

I recorded the Chinese New Year Special on CCTV 4 (China TV) off our Chinese satellite this morning. That’s probably going to be 3 DVD’s 😉

Okay, so what’s Quake? Sorry to seem stupid. I still got V5 in my machine plus V7.

…and Mike, that link you gave? I don’t trust that site. Too many pop-ups (blocked) as well as 3rd party cookies (also blocked). Maybe spyware also???? Plus I don’t see a list of the scripts they’re offering in the download.
