It’s faster because it’s running on a brand new dual quad Mac Pro. My macs load way faster than my current PC. Vegas is running on an old HP P4 3.0gHz machine.

Workflows. I”d love to be able to combine Vegas and FCP. There’s stuff I really like in Vegas and the same in FCP. For example for my needs in FCP it’s way easier to animate and control keyframes but in Vegas you can overlap clips for a transition. You can’t do that in FCP. In fact if you’re at the beginning or end of a clip You can’t do a transition as you need a second or two. Hence I find myself using the I/O points more than I did in Vegas.

Little things. I really like FCP though but I had to get it or loose a lot of money.

Nothing wrong with having and using both,m but remember you can’t cross between the two with project files. What starts in Vegas or FCP stays there with regards to the 2 programs. I need to collaborate and swap project files and my partner already have Studio because he also edits TV shows.

Thanks. I agree that retirement is the chance to do what you really love to do and to be able to make money doing it is an added plus.

I doubt if I’ll ever just put my feet up with a beer and fishing pole though. The camera is really light compared to that DSR-250 @ 19# all decked out. The 170 is about 4! 😉

Dark Side? HA ha ha ha, on their side they call PCs the dark side! Go figure.

Yes, I got your email and I’ll be around, remember I still got and use Vegas on the old HP. But after almost a year of not using it I’ll feel almost like a newbie again! 😉

Actually I’ve been busier than before I retired, so haven’t had a chance to enjoy retirement.

However I am certainly enjoying life and mostly being able to schedule my own work. With the consultant group the shooting is scheduled for me and I don’t have much say so except I do get sufficient notice.

Was able to get to Eastern Europe, Poland, Prague, and Budapest on a business shoot plus some vacation time. Back to China later his year for 3 weeks.

Hi Boris

Thanks for your reply. I downloaded that video and watched it many times. That video was what prompted me to try the FX and motion keying.

Since it was done in Avid it threw me off a bit. I called Boris Tech Support and they told me in FCP I didn’t have to duplicate the track like he did in Avid. I had to drop the clip from the browser into the well (which I didn’t know).

I fine tuned the rectangle so the red was covering the person as well. I got 2 different kinds of results. In one try I used the blade and cut the clip so it became a separate clip. In that instance FX did remove the fellow completely but at the cut point the video has a small jump which I couldn’t smooth out using a transition. The next try I left the clip whole and it also removed the fellow but you can see a ripple in the clip there the object would have been walking. He came toward the camera and got bigger, then walked away from the camera as he left the frame to the right. At one point he did cover quite a bit of the video. But this object was walking at a constant, steady speed. So I had a problem keying the size of the rectangle as well as the walking motion.

With my limited knowledge and experience I wasn’t able to satisfactorily remove him. so I opted not to use that song (clip). (Music Video of a Polka Band).

The other object I wanted to remove was another fellow who was much smaller and walking straight across the screen. In a couple of songs he stopped and was bouncing his head. I believe he’d be easier to remove. But I didn’t get far enough to try him. He’s in quite a few clips.

Thanks for your help and information though. I appreciate it. I’ll keep trying to work on it but my deadline to get this DVD out is fast approaching.

Hi Steve

I’m using a Mac Pro and I figured out what happened. Each function key supports 2 purposes. I had it set for the upper features and not for the F features. I switched it in Sys Prefs so now the F1 – F12 works right. Sorry for the confusion.

Wow, Thanks very much. I’m interested in learning Motion. Most of my Studio experience has been FCP. I migrated over from the PC and Sony’s Vegas. Loved Vegas but love the Mac Better! 😉 Doing mainly industrial and music videos.

One other item but that’s not affecting my following along and doing the project files is my keybpard commands and the ones you show in the dvd don’t match. That’s not a big problem though.

This sounds like a QT file to me. All my MP4’s open in QT.

By the way, where’s the clip. All I see on the link was AVS video converter.

One other thought. Are you on XP? I don’t know about Vista but you can try a System Restore. Restore back to before the crash.

Use Excalibur but if you’re doing manual saves every x minutes. Don’t save over the last one. Do a Save-AS and give it incremental numbers or letters.

That way many saves to go back to.
