I’ve seen that on the previous version. I just power cycle the hardware and computer and it goes away. Not sure what causes that.

[mr_gfx] “i cut on the blink of their eyes and it made the sequence edits really invisible.”

By blink do you mean when the eyes are closed completely to the next shot with the eyes closed?

Did I miss something? Where did the name “Media 100” come from?
As a user since 2.x Whole / Suite Deal NuBus thing (also having bit on the 844 fruit) – for what it’s worth- I think changing the name would add more confusion to the explanation. If they’ve never heard of Media 100.. you can be sure that with a new name they will think yet another NLE is being added to an already over-crowed market. Now the explanation for Media 100 will be a little longer. “Blank-blank…you know the old Media 100” It will be like adding sunglasses to your new ebay screen name…. what are you running from?
Besides, changing a name costs money! Lots of money. I would vote for efforts to market better and improve the reputation. You need new creative marketing strategies not a new name. You can run but you can’t hide. Stand and fight.

  • On the PDW 1500 it’s menu selection 215: PC Remote. Select “ena”
I have another PDW 1500 and it’s called something else. Must be a software difference. Sorry, but that deck is on location so I can’t get into details I just know that the option is “FAM” – File Access Mode… like with the cameras.
For more info google “XDCAM Compatibility Guide”

  • The deck has to be in “PC REMOTE”. When the connection is made that is what will be on the display.
In the main menu select the FAM option. I don’t have a deck in front of me now so I don’t remember details of the menu but scroll down the menu until you see a connection option. Some decks have “Dsbl” and Enbl” for a remote option.
Then plug in the firewire to the deck then the computer then insert the disc. Sometimes you have to un plug and replug in the firewire cable to get it to take. Just make sure the disc is not in when you make the conection. When I get to my office I’ll post the details.

September 15, 2006 at 1:39 pm in reply to: Can Avid Express Pro master without deck control?

I’m actualy going the other direction. I need to get the Avid to capture from a live camera feed via firewire.

The camera can send video and timecode to a Firestore hard drive via firewire. It’s more of a settings problem. I’m not an Avid person but it sems to always need to play a tape in the camera. I’m trying to record the camera output while the camera is recording on tape.
How do I handle Deck Preferences and control if I just want to capture live video without controlling a deck.
    Video and TC are enabled.

    Thanks for responding.

I’m using the FS-4 Pro HD. In the quicktime mode it took in a 45 second clip in about 5 seconds or less.
In raw dv it brought the clip in just as fast but the media show it was missing. I re-imported the same raw dv clip and it poped in instantly and was usable.
    media SW only version 10.2.1

I bought the FS-4 Pro HD for my portable Avid Express Pro. because it records native Avid DV files and they can be dragged right in to the bin instantly and play from the FS-4

M100 tech support told me not to defrag. I did it once and the media 100 could not find any of my media files. I called tech support and they said you should never defrag a Media 100 video drive. That was back when I went to V8. That may have changed by now.
When I got the 844 I was supprised you could defrag and at the training they said it’s ok on the 844 but not the Mac Media 100.

You can defrag the 844 PC. But last I heard it’s a no no to defrag a Mac Media 100. Unless that changed in the newer versions.
