Hiya…

to accomplish this….

we usually use a combo of PPro, AE, and AME.

In Pro drop clips in a sequence.
Cut away junk you don’t need. so you end up with a sequence in your project that contains all the selects.
in the project panel copy your project, select and COPY your sequence.

Switch to AE.
int he AE project panel. Paste.
this will bring in your sequence as a comp with all associated media.
open the comp, select the layers
Use Andrew Kramer’s (Video Copilot Net) trim_compose_script : https://www.videocopilot.net/tutorials/trim_compose_script/

this will generate trimmed comps for every layer (meaning every clip you med in PPro)

then you can send those comps (created by the script) thru the render queue or Adobe media encoder to transcode to whatever you need.

Note pay attention to audio set up in PPro so you end up with only the audio channels you need in AE and beyond.

in photoshop:

File>Scripts>Export Layers to files

png is an option

disable trim layers so each layer is full document size…

I don’t think you need to adjust the monitor but the MXO and create a custom setup there for grading for WEB.

You should then be able to recall that setup whenever you like.

Base it on a few reference images: maybe inside and outside shots, daytime, night time.

if you can get it to the point that what you see on the Sony THRU the MXO is close to the viewer experience getting when you encode and view on CPU monitor, phone or tablet…then you should be good.

Yep…I’d like that and an option when nesting multiple clips to nest to 1 or multiple sequences as well.

Hey Peter…

When I advanced to Assistant Prod Mgr. I finally had the influence needed to convince them that looking for Motion artists was a dead end.

This obviously opened the door to a lot more candidates. So last round of tech upgrades I pushed them to CC. We bought everyone seats of Motion 5 as well. Since it’s all such a great value proposition it was really a no brainer.

We are majority After Effects now. It’s nice to be with the industry standard. And so much easier to support.

Hi…

Back in the CS4 days, I swore by HP.
But a mid year expansion with a limited budget made me to look at Dells. (I don’t know how competitive the pricing is these days).

They worked fine.

But I’d also consider how you would be supporting them?

I did a lot myself at that time, or at least I was a conduit to our local integrator and could be hands on frontline. But we had a very specific fibre workgroup SAN.

It’s always good to have a relationship with a local firm that specialized in VIDEO oriented workflows. It is becoming more general technology these days. but the video mindset is very important IMHO.

So you may look to a local reseller selling brand named boxes to give you the best of both worlds.

Honestly it makes your job easier and the reseller’s easier too. Many times they can have a spare on Deck to swap during a repair cycle to minimize your down time.

Hiya…

In Premiere Pro, there is a panel called the Media Browser.

This is PPro’s way of interpreting all the different file based media sources out there.

if you navigate to the location of the MTS….

you will see all the clips in the MTS.

Good news is no transcoding….

you can just drag them in and go to work. (this assumes you have already copied the ftg to your hard drive and aren’t working off the camera directly).

Well….

If at the end…

make an AE Master Project and import all your other AE projects into it.

then you can collect just once.

a long time motion3,4,5/fcp 6 & 7 user myself (well as a freelancer I use everything)…

I’m happy to say that Adobe has mostly addressed this workflow with the last release earlier this year.

not quite as robust was what you are used to, but should get you where you want to go.

well what if you nested the clip the 1st time from the sequence…

then in the nest sequence you create your dynamic link…

do your AE work on the dynamic link comp

then in PPro render/replace….

but now that render is in the nested sequence….available in the project panel…

which you can use over and over again in any other sequence?

this doesn’t really address a chopped up master….though….

anyway….there should be something to get you going there….
