I tried out the Consolidate and Transcode feature in the new PPro 2014.1 update and was hoping to see my Dynamic Linked clips also consolidated and transcoded – this did not happen.

While Adobe has changed the way PPro handles the Dynamic Linked clips it still does not work well. As far as I can see every Dynamic Linked clip is saved as and linked to an individual AE project using the naming convention, “Project Name__001.aep, Project Name__002.aep, etc…” this sounds like a step in the right direction, however, in PPro if you R-Click on a Dynamically Linked clip and choose to Edit Original, to open the comp in AE, you’ll notice the media on the timeline points to the original media file, not one of the consolidated or transcoded ones.

This presents a problem in that, now I have 36 AE projects that I need to Collect Files for instead of just one. Please let me know if I am missing a step or if there is a suggested workflow for media managing PPro projects with Dynamically Linked clips. Thanks!

You can “Convert AE Comp to Clip” now which is what I would do before doing the Consolidate and Transcode.

Yeah, that would definitely be the easiest way to get around this. Should have mentioned that I always like to keep my AE projects as PPro when archiving just in case I need to make minor changes or am working on a new project and want to step back in and see how I did something – so I want to keep the Dynamic Linked clips as such and not use the Render and Replace feature in PPro.

Thanks for the suggestion though Walter!

    Well….

    If at the end…

make an AE Master Project and import all your other AE projects into it.

then you can collect just once.

    does that help?
