I was going to suggest Neo Scene too.
But I wasn’t sure how well it would work under multi stream playback conditions.

Alternatively I suppose you could output DV Widescreen versions of your clips
edit with those and replace with HD source when done.

But I don’t know the exact steps of the replace

The alternative is to drag and drop the transition effect only to the clip you wish affected, from the video transitions in the effects palette.

Nesting refers to treating several elements as one collapsed clip.

Simply the act of placing the sequence on a new timeline as a clip is already nesting. There is no need to nest that clip. You are actually double nesting when you do that.

It is an option that comes up when select “make offline.”

This means that when you disconnect the media in the project window from the files on the hard drive, the files on the hard drive are not deleted.

But they all refer to the same media files.

Try this:

Save as you project so you are working from a safe copy.

If you go to the timeline and right click on a bad clip, there is an option to reveal the clip source in the project panel.

In the project panel right click that clip and choose make offline (BUT MAE SURE YOU CHOOSE MEDIA FILES REMAIN ON DISK).

then, take the offline clip, right click it and choose “Link Media”

then find the correct media file.

This should fix it in the project panel and the the timeline.

Is it possible to make the clips that are wrong in the Project panel “Offline” and then connect them to the right media manually?

WOuld this work as a suggested workflow…

If you are considering “replace with AE COMP” workflow:

1) Select Clips
2) right CLick, Nest
3) Step into nest
4) Select all clips
5) Copy
6) Add new video track
7) paste video clips on top track
8) Select pasted clips
9) replace with AE COMP
10) select the clips not included in the AE COMP and mute them

This issue arises because people want to use this feature on the fly, but workflow sort of dictates that you shouldn’t start doing this until you have a “picture lock” on the project, where you can save off a duplicate sequence. Most people don’t have this sort of disciplined approach to working.

I really thing Adobe ought to address this somehow.

Perhaps through creating a nest, moving the sources into the nest, muting them, and then adding the comp as the top clip within the nest.

At least that way you’d still have access to the old material.

Did you save the project at least one time?

If you did, then you should have autosaves.

Check the most recent one.
