I haven’t read all the posts on the debate forum (I read the Techniques forum instead), so I don’t know what the received wisdom is…
…but I assume the way FCP X was launched wasn’t much to do with the team creating it.
1. Final Cut Pro 7 was EOLed probably to force the hardware part of the FCP ecosystem to produce non-QuickTime versions of their drivers and products.
2. Final Cut Pro X may have been released too early to test Mac OS X Lion’s ‘Mac App Store distribution only’ policy. Given that tens of thousands of people downloaded Final Cut Pro X and a significant fraction downloaded Motion with few problems, that might have eased the path for Lion a few weeks later.
The preceding does mean I think these were good reasons, but they are explanations for odd decisions.

February 17, 2012 at 3:54 pm in reply to: Anyone Come Up With Legacy FCP Style White Balance Using Color Correction In FCP X Yet???There is a Color Balance effect in Motion which can be published in a template for Final Cut Pro X.
Ripple Training have done this and produced a page that shows you how to use the FCP X version of the 3-way Color Corrector controls.
Visit Ripple Training for more.

I’ve added a couple more effects to my blog post at https://alex4d.wordpress.com/2011/09/30/trim-fcpx-effect/
Alex4D Trim L-R – which trims the left or right edge of a clip
Alex4D Trim T-B – which trims the top or bottom edge of a clipAs animation curves are editable for the first rigged parameter for each effect you apply to a clip, you can use these effects to have more precise control over your cropping.

Oops, spoke too soon – only the first parameter has keyframe curve control.
At least there’s more flexibility with the feathering!

I’ve created an effect that works in the same way cropping worked in FCP7 – the same way as the crop effect in X works when in ‘trim’ mode.
I’ve made the parameters default to linear curves between keyframes. You can use the Video Animation curve editor to change the curve interpolation style between keyframes.

There are also some feathering controls.
Visit my blog for download link and further instructions.

I have a request!
Could you produce a version that publishes the Fit parameter?
That would help people who want to choose which page of a PDF to show.
Cheers,
Alex

Interesting copy protection method!
That workaround is the kind of thing that will be fixed in the next revision. I think I’ll keep version 5.0 just in case.

Thanks for posting the link to my plugins, but sadly they won’t work in this case. They require a clip to transition from and to. If used at the start of a secondary storyline, all they do is make the dissolve twice as fast.
Andy Neil’s solution is best in this case.

I was going to use that one for my Smooth Move effect, but found that sometimes the co-ordinates are sometimes limited and jump around.
