  • Anyone Come Up With Legacy FCP Style White Balance Using Color Correction In FCP X Yet???

I thought I saw something about this on here a while ago but I don’t think I remember a solution. I do quite a bit of event video and things like that where I need to fix the white balance in post (yea, I know… but it is what it is). I tend to use the 3-way color corrector and the eyedropper to do initial corrections, and it’s often so good that I don’t even have to tweak it any further. Well, I haven’t figured out a way to do that with FCP X. And don’t see any solution at this point.

If anyone has either created a preset via Motion (I tried to do so but couldn’t figure out a way) or if there’s a simple way to do so inside of FCP X using the existing color correction, I’d love to know about it!

Without that, it really makes things difficult for what ends up being quite a bit of my work. Thanks for your help!

    Hi Tony
Is FCPX’s built in automated white balancing not working for you at all?
    Reference link is here: https://help.apple.com/finalcutpro/mac/10.0.3/#verbbd363f5

There’s a couple of different scenarios that affect how the color balance analysis and subsequent corrections are made … I’m not sure if its possible to force are reanalysis by one or the other method tho.

You know….I haven’t started to do full projects in X yet. Just smaller things. I had not yet used that feature. I’ll have to try it! I do like the manual control of being able to select what I’m white balancing to though. I’d love to see an eyedtopper back in pay for it…in addition to the auto features of X. Thanks for the info Andy!

There is a Color Balance effect in Motion which can be published in a template for Final Cut Pro X.

Ripple Training have done this and produced a page that shows you how to use the FCP X version of the 3-way Color Corrector controls.

    Visit Ripple Training for more.
