Stumbled across the relief filter today, under stylize.

Remember using it once a few years ago, it creates a an extruded depth like map of an image based on luminance.

The effect is a bit cheesy, but the OSC controls could prove very useful for linking to parameters when publishing effects to FCP X.

Very handy onscreen control for any A to B transformation type effects.

    Cheers,

    Great tip, thanks!

I really hope they supply a sensible “null” control in the next release of Motion 5 (actually what Motion badly needs is proper linking and expressions in the AE style), but all this searching around for cunning workarounds definitely adds to the fun at the moment 😉

I was going to use that one for my Smooth Move effect, but found that sometimes the co-ordinates are sometimes limited and jump around.

It would be really nice if all of Motions transform / masking / key-framing abilities were available directly in the timeline of X.

Then there would be no need to create work arounds to get the functionality of one to appear in the other.

I wonder if all of Motion absorbed into X is such a far-fetched idea??
(one step at a time Brendan….let’s get the editing fixed in there first!!!)

    Cheers,
