Built-in? No. Perhaps use Movements:Push to animate each element seperately, then make compound clips of each and crop them as required.
@Alex4D
One of my ‘Alex4D Animation Transitions’ can do this (Move Left Divide Portrait), but it is a paid plugin.

My guess is that Apple don’t like feature requests as much as they like getting insights into how you work. The ProApps team like stories.
They like each feature request to come with a story showing how it would change your day to day life. “I often have these kind of tasks. I have to do this in Final Cut. It would save me a great deal of time if the task went this way.”
‘Seamless integration with XX’ is a clear request, but if you are more specific, it would be more useful. How would it work with Motion or Logic – in combination with multi-editor collaboration for example?
This way of giving Apple insight means they can compare your stories with people in different markets.
10.3 was about the answering requests made by people with complex workflows. I expect the next major update to be about the majority of Final Cut users. The trick is to come up with stories that could apply to more than 40% of users, and new stories that help them and you.

They missed the word ‘Photoshop’ from the headlines.
28 years on: The public have a new verb to use in everyday conversation: “Why don’t you just Photoshop it?”
Adobe are proud that Premiere is 25 years old (Version 1 was ©1991?). But people don’t say “Why don’t you just Premiere it?” They never will. Adobe wasted their 25 year chance for wider video literacy. I hope they come up with something actually competitive. Real people would benefit.

For most Final Cut Pro X updates, the reaction is “not many changes after waiting for so long” then “that’s new, why didn’t they include that in the release notes” and – for some people: “I didn’t think that update was a big deal, but now I think my day to day editing experience has improved a lot.”
As regards why we are waiting, although the ProApps team might have wanted to release the next update on the fifth anniversary of X (on the 1-year anniversary of the FCPX Creative Summit event – which included a visit to Final Cut HQ), my guess is that they have been countermanded by Apple – the wider company.
Apple PR: “We’ve got new Mac hardware coming out that has various new features that support a range of obscure uses for high-end Macs”
Apple Marketing: “Any TV/mainstream print/mainstream website journalist can understand that video editing needs a lot of power. Let’s say that these new Macs make 4K/8K/VR/AR much better using a special new version of Final Cut”
ProApps team: “With our established proxy workflow, we support 4K editing on the new entry-level MacBook”
Apple PR: “That doesn’t help explain why we make the Mac Pro/Mac mini Pro/MacBook Pro ‘Pro‘ – Final Cut will make the message clearer. And delaying the update a few more months will give you lot the chance to make it even bigger!”@Alex4D
PS: Join me and some proper Final Cut Pro X and Motion superstars at the FCPX Creative Summit 2016. This year in late October!

December 6, 2015 at 7:32 pm in reply to: Two computers, same plugin, one offline – what to do?The problem is that the Finder or Final Cut sometimes adds a hidden ‘.localized’ suffix to some folder names.
One method to see where the plugins are expected to be is
1. Use the same plugin on both machines
2. Export the projects as XML files
3. Open each in a text editor and search for the name of the plugin “Sound Only”
4. Compare and contrast the path that is listed on the same line as the name of the pluginChange the path of the plugin on machine B so it matches the machine A. Then timelines made on machine A will open OK on machine B.
On my Mac, the line of XML looks like this:
effect id=”r77″ name=”Sound only” uid=”~/Transitions.localized/Dissolves/Sound only/Sound only.motr”
If went to the Finder and look in the Motion Templates folder (in your home folder), and selected the folder that seems to be named ‘Transitions’ and use the Get Info command from the File menu, you’ll see the real name is ‘Transitions.localized’

PS: Thanks to Oliver for telling me about this discussion – I’m mostly on Twitter, hardly here.

September 9, 2015 at 11:17 am in reply to: I wish FCPX adopted these Premiere Pro featuresI hardly come to the COW forums. Pity how an interesting post from someone who considers both sides of a debate turns into a back and forth I remember from four years ago.
Any suggestions as to what would be useful about regularly visiting this forum?
What do you get out of it?

September 9, 2015 at 11:02 am in reply to: I wish FCPX adopted these Premiere Pro featuresThe trick with each of these requests is to make a submission for each – with a story telling Apple why you want them. They like to then interpret what they think you need – because they don’t want to replicate features, they want to find the new right way of supporting what you do.
Patronising of them, but that’s how I think it works.
As post people, we are used to tailoring our message for each audience, be it people in a cinema, someone not paying attention to a TV show, a naive director or old-fashioned post supervisor.
That also applies to communicating with Apple.
