Could you elaborate on the “uncompressed” aspect? ProRes is a compressed format; uncompressed HD does change the requirements dramatically, nearly always necessitating FC-based SAN.
GB Labs Space and Maxx Digital Final Share come to mind as possible solutions for ProRes.

Tom is right that Premiere Pro can “see” only one GPU and that Quadro 4000 is old tech now that Quadro K5000 is out and GeForce GTX-700 series is soon to be released. It’s still the “sweet spot” among all Quadro cards though, at less than 50% of K5000’s price; when purchased from HP, it’s covered by the same on-site warranty as the rest of the system.
That said, AE does take advantage of multiple GPUs; GeForce GTX-690 is a fairly good choice as it take two adjacent slots while offering the power of dual GTX-680 cards (that normally take four slots).
On Z820 systems we offer, Quadro 4000 can substituted for GTX-680 4GB or GTX-690.

Can’t find ARC-1223x in your links. Not even sure it exists. You need two external MiniSAS SFF-8088 ports to drive your enclosure. 1222x has them, 1223-8i doesn’t. You can get adapters and brackets to convert internal SFF-8087 to external SFF-8087 – your call if it’s worth it.

With write-back caching:
Worst case scenario (somewhat unlikely): all of it, e.g. corrupted file system; the OS and FS didn’t have a 2nd copy of the allocation table.
Best case: none.
On the average: no way to tell but most files systems do have a 2nd copy of the allocation table and if there’s something iffy with the primary one, it’ll get replaced; data loss will be contained but may still be significant as the contents of the cache may be spread over a large number of blocks, corrupting all of them.
With write-through caching: no data loss except in pending I/Os (same as with a directly-attached hard drive).

I think it’s load-dependent (i.e. “flush when there’re no I/Os”) although there still may be timers telling the cache to get flushed no matter what within a certain number of milliseconds.
(All this is from ancient researches years ago – most of it should still be applicable today, some may not.)

On the same volume where the media is, or on a separate drive (volume) – but preferably not on a system (boot) volume

Either or. Some people advise to put them in a single place (folder on the main media drive or a volume dedicated for media housekeeping and possibly other tasks) – because that simplifies housekeeping – e.g. you can clear all cache by wiping that folder rather than chase them around.
I am with you – best keep media cache and database out of the system (boot) drive.

TotalCode is a Rovi (Sonic Solutions) product now; Rovi can be reached at +1 408 562 8400. Try asking for “professional solutions pre-sales support” if you don’t get too far when calling that number; alternately, find a Rovi Pro (Sonic) reseller who worked with TotalCode.
