  • Dealing with Conforming and Media Cache Database

I know many others have experienced this problem where Premiere keeps conforming footage over and over again. Every now and then, for no apparent reason, I also get this problem. Somehow, last time I fixed it by moving around my media cache files and database in the Preferences, then moving them back to the original location, and doing some cleaning. I don’t know how I actually fixed it, but it somehow worked.

Now, I’m getting this problem again, but I need to know whether there is a permanent fix to this issue.
    1. Where am I supposed to put the Media Cache Files and Database?
    2. Am I supposed to check the “Save Media Cache files next to originals when possible”? I thought this was good since it keeps those pek files organized with the original footage and keeps it off of my Mac HD.
    3. I moved the Media Cache Database to another location on my HD, but I read that it’s bad to move this. How do I locate the original location it went it? I can’t locate the hidden folders on Lion without going through Finder, but I need to be able to select it after hitting Browse in Preferences for the setting.

[Melina Kolb] “1. Where am I supposed to put the Media Cache Files and Database? “

On the same volume where the media is, or on a separate drive (volume) – but preferably not on a system (boot) volume

Either or. Some people advise to put them in a single place (folder on the main media drive or a volume dedicated for media housekeeping and possibly other tasks) – because that simplifies housekeeping – e.g. you can clear all cache by wiping that folder rather than chase them around.

I am with you – best keep media cache and database out of the system (boot) drive.

I believe this is the default location:

I did this recently – keeping cache files with media. When the project is over I will hand back the media files to another company who do not use premiere. Does this mean that if they try to bring those files into avid that all those premiere cache files mixed in with media files will cause an Avid melt down?
