The OS that is installed with the new machine has many files and items specific to that model.
You could try it, but I believe you may at best get an error that the OS is not compatible with the hardware.
And this explains whey using a disk made for another machine or a generic disk that was made before your machine wont work. That disk wont have the support for the newer hardware of your machine.

If the universal Leopard installer disc has an erase and install option, it should be simple.

In your first post you show Tiger as your OS, with Studio2
Then in subsequent posts, it’s Snow Leopard with Studio3.
AFAIK Studio2 does better on Leopard
Did you do a clean install or an overwrite from Tiger to Snow Leopard?Cheers

Not to add to this controversy, but the SL installer (unlike previous systems), does not have the “clean install” option. Does Apple consider this unnecessary?
Could it be that 3rd party software is what causes the eventual problems from an overwrite?Cheers

Most Compressor conversions miss the most important setting, nmely intelligent use of the Frame Controls tab. IMHO this method writes the best conversions
