Hi!
I would drag the original footage to the top of the comp and set it’s start when the mask should disappear and it’s end when the mask reappears, then continue rotoscoping the original footage.

Hi! I don’t think that merging all of them will help. But you can:
-Reduce the number of points in the splines by changing the Intermediate points to natural and pumping down the value.
-If you are not making any changes to the model you can convert the sweep nurbs to editable poly’s by selecting them and pressing (C) or: Objects—> Make Editable.
Keep in mind that the first option will reduce the quality of the model and the second one will not permit further corrections to it…
Oh, and if you still want to make one single object: Convert all the Sweep NURBS to editable Poly’s (C) and select Objects–> Connect
Hope it helps

Hi!
I think your best option is roto, I don’t know how shaky or blurry is your shot, but maybe you could pull something good with a few masks. It’s a lot of work but I would go that way. Maybe you can motion track the tattoo to make the work easier, it all depends on your footage.

Hi!
What I usually do is export a jpg sequence with alpha channel activated, it will give you two sequences the original one and the alpha channel one, I don’t use Avid but I am almost sure it can manage jpg sequences as video as well as permitting you to use the alpha channel sequence to be used as a matte, I don’t use Avid but you could try this way.

Hi.
I understand what you mean. I would use two cameras. One set to front view (orthogonal). Which makes the objects look flat, avoiding the problem of the perspective of the boxes… The second camera would be a normal one, so when you are about to do the 2d/3D transition change from one camera to another and make the transition fast with motion blur so the change (between cameras) wont be very noticeable.
That’s what I think would work… but if you want to make a box that is far away the same apparent size than one that is closer (but they have the same dimesions), I think the only solution is to keyframe the scale while rotating (again doing it fast with motion blur or something).
Hope this helps.

The easiest way I can think of is to use a lens flare. Set the blending mode to add and I think it would do the effect. As for flying sparks, etc you could use 3d particle world or for a more realistic effect you could try some stock footage.

Hi:
I would recommend to export large movies (I even do so with small ones) to a jpg image sequence. That way you can composite them in After Effects, etc in a much easier way without any problems. Besides if something goes wrong at the middle of the animation, you can restart the render from the point the problem is, you wont have to re-render everything again.
As After Effects, premiere or Vegas are far more specialized for encoding you can chose a lot of formats without fearing corruption and thus re-render.

Thanks to everybody for your help.
My main aim is to learn as much as I can of this programs. I want to develop a visual effects studio for broadcast and TV in Mexico City.
I can currently handle the workload (as a freelancer) and my current skills are enough for it but eventually I want to take higher demanding jobs from clients that require high-end animations. That is why I am looking for a quick (1-2years) course.
What would you recommend? Is it possible to continue on improving my skills with books, tutorials, experience and self education? or would it be easier/faster to learn it formally from a school? I know there is no definite answer for this and it is up to myself to decide but based on your experience, etc what would you do?
As you can see I’m a bit confused here, especially being in Mexico where this type of courses are scarcely available.
Thanks again Darby, Aharon and JP
