Hey I’ve got a quick shot to remove a tattoo from someone on. I have an idea of my workflow here but was just wondering if anyone else has done anything like this quickly and successfully before?

    Hi!

I think your best option is roto, I don’t know how shaky or blurry is your shot, but maybe you could pull something good with a few masks. It’s a lot of work but I would go that way. Maybe you can motion track the tattoo to make the work easier, it all depends on your footage.

    Regards

That’s what i thought, i didn’t know if maybe there was something easier like doing some kinf of selective color replacement to match the ink to the skin tone, oh well the long way it is then!

i had an actor who had a tat on one leg and not the other. i actually just took a solid, applied a ramp, roto’d, and then “match grain”.

the trick for me was actually doing more of the leg than just the tat. i ended up doing his whole leg above the knee, and that really did it. it was painful, but not as painful as trying to remove the tat alone (which i initially tried with less-than-convincing results)
