[Liz Gaden] “When I import my psd files they just come in as a flattened file, not a sequence with layers.”
FCP imports .psd files as a nested sequence. If you notice the icon next to the .psd file in your browser, it will look like the sequence icon and not an image icon. If you double click the .psd sequence, the sequence should contain all of the layers from your photoshop file.

What Easy Setup are you using? What is the size/resolution of your images? What is your delivery format?
The .psd files are more difficult to work with in FCP, in my opinion. I have found much better success working with .tif files.

Camera movement does not effect 2D layers. Make your video layer 2D and everything else 3D and your camera moves will only effect the 3D layers.

That was a good article. I found that if I reduced the quality to a third or quarter, that I was able to work without getting the beach ball. I was able to work much faster. The article indicated that it didnt seem to have any effect, but it was significant on my end.

I have dual display, but only use one monitor when working in Motion. I dont have any of the Motion windows on my second display and I still have speed issues.

We experience the same thing when ever we attempt to do any animation or effects. We get the beach ball for every click of the mouse. And I have the same system as you. I dont understand either!!!!

[Max Rosenfeld] “how do i go about making it so when I zoom out with the camera, the video layer is not effected by the camera movement?”
You either make the layers 2D or make sure the video and mask have the same z space coordinate so they respond to the camera movement exactly the same.

[Kim stuckmeyer] “The project starts with an 8 second Motion file”
Are you exporting the Motion project as a quicktime movie or are you importing the Motion file into your FCP project?
[Kim stuckmeyer] “Is there a way to not have it be interlaced at all? I”
You have a filter in FCP to deinterlace. You can also deinterlace the final sequence on export if you use QuickTime conversion.

[Harry Katz] “I read that my camera was set at a default of 1080i60p”
1080i60p is a contradiction. The i stands for interlaced and the p stands for progressive. You can’t have footage that is both interlaced and progressive at the same time on the same tape. The standard formats would be 1080p60 or 1080i60, but not 1080i60p.

[Harry Katz] “My Easy Setup has Format: HD, Sequence Preset:HDV 1080i50, Capture Preset HDV, Device Control Present: HDV 1080i50 FireWire Basic.”
If you shot your footage in 30p why would you use 1080i50 Easy Setup? You need to use an Easy Setup that is consistent with your footage. I would suggest the HDV – 1080p30 Fire Wire Basic. That would be a setup that is consistent with your footage.
If you still get timecode issues, you can make a dub of the tape which would lay new timecode and remove any/all timecode breaks.
