Are you getting error messages? Is it all images? It it movies too or just image files?

If image files, then you probably need to reinstall.

If movie files, what format are the files in (resolution, codec, etc.)? Try rendering a movie (or image) in particleIllusion then load that movie and see if it works.

You should contact support at wondertouch so we can transfer the license in our records and also get more details on what’s going wrong.

You’re probably not using the latest version. Check the “updates” section of our “downloads” page of our website.

February 19, 2010 at 1:16 am in reply to: Emmiters

Kurt and all — unfortunately I’ve not been able to generate any emitters for January. We’re putting the finishing touches on the Mac version of particleIllusion for After Effects and I just haven’t had time.

There will be a February library though — this was just a one-month hiatus. =)

Somebody mentioned user-created emitters. I’m definitely for that! If everybody sent me their one best emitter, I’d hopefully have dozens of great emitters to choose from. There are a few “rules” that have to be followed though, which makes it more difficult:

    1) The emitter has to be different enough from existing emitters, or a major improvement over existing emitters. Subtle variations on old emitters are not good enough.

    2) The emitter can’t be based on a Pro Emitter, or if it is it needs to be drastically different and use different particle images.

    3) The emitter must be yours to give.

    4) You must be willing to share it with *everybody*

    5) I have to approve the emitter (it has to be good).

If you have emitters that meet 1-4, please send them along (zipped) to support at wondertouch.com!

(reviewing emitters takes time too, but not as much as creating them)

Ah, you’re using the Mac version. There’s no way to turn off hardware acceleration in the current version.

Can you do some testing for me and find out if there is some size at which the alpha channel starts working correctly? For instance, does it work at 4000 x 2000? 2000 x 1000? If you can find the size at which it seems to stop working, that may give me some clues.

I will add this bug to our list, but I’m not sure when I’ll be able to get to it.

I don’t think it’s a codec issue. Do you have pIRender set to use hardware rendering, or software rendering? Try software rendering if you haven’t yet.

Also, are you using motion blur? If so, try setting it to “regular” instead of “high quality” in pIRender.

Sounds like you need to reinstall.

  • If you want to fade out the entire *emitter* you need to animate the “visibility” property graph so it fades out when you want it to.

If you want the *particles* to fade out at the end of their lives, use the transparency gradient.

  • You can’t blur a particle over its lifetime. The emitters that do that use a multi-frame image sequence for the particles, where the blurring is already present in the images.

Have you tried reading through the docs? They’re written in a tutorial format, and are intended to take you through features from the simpler to more advanced. Should be a good starting point for you.

The exact feature you’re looking for is the transparency gradient, which is on the “colors” page of the “particles” page of the emitter properties dialog. Both the color gradient and transparency gradient control the colors/transparency of the particles over their life.

Preferences sets the size of the New Project stage sizes (the default).

Project Settings dialog sets the size of the current project.
