If you check/uncheck the “enabled” checkbox, does that make a difference? What about when you change the color from “black” to grey or white — does the window change colors?
You should be able to click and drag around in that preview window too — see if that does anything. Try the zoom level too.
If nothing works, then it must be an OpenGL problem. Did you say you already installed the latest video drivers for your card? If not, do that.

Are you saying the emitter selection dialog does not show any emitters — the left window is empty? If so, click the “load library” button and choose the “Default.il3” file from Documents/wondertouch/Emitter Libraries.

That’s a redraw problem, and is a video driver issue for sure.
If the latest drivers for your Radeon don’t fix it, then try a slightly older driver. You want to use the latest non-beta driver that’s available.
To confirm it’s a driver issue, use the particleIllusion “run with software rendering” Start menu option.

Either look in the wondertouch folder of your Documents folder for the update backups folder and copy the old exe from there to your particleIllusion Program Files folder, or use the 3.0.4 “update” installer that’s on our website to restore 3.0.4.1.
Then when it’s working again you can r-click on the pI3 shortcut and “run as administrator” and try the update again.

What type of video card do you have? Is it NVIDIA or ATI/AMD based, or something else?

When you click “about…”, what is the license status of pIAE?
Have you already turned off “fast previews” in AE or set it to one of the non-OpenGL settings?

I’m guessing there’s something wrong with that project file.
Try adding that same emitter to a brand new project and see what happens.
The number of emitter libraries you have on your system doesn’t matter, as you can only have a single library loaded at a time. Now if you’ve created your own library that is a combination of dozens of other libraries, that could cause problems.

Nope, not normal.
Can you give me a detailed explanation of what you’re doing? Which emitter, which property, graph window in main interface or in emitter properties dialog, etc. Stage emitter or while editing library?
Have you tried the “run with software rendering” option in the Start menu? If that fixes the problem it’s actually an OpenGL issue and you need to update your video drivers.
Also, if you haven’t restarted your computer lately, do that. Weird problems like this are often fixed by a reboot.
