No, not with AVI. If you’re using the Mac version of pIllusion (SE or 3.0) you can create a QuickTime movie with an alpha channel though (if you select a compressor that supports it, and have the number of colors set correctly).

  • If you get the following error message when trying to install the demo:

“C:\Windows\System32\Autoexec.nt. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose ‘close’ to terminate the application.”

This is caused by a missing autoexec.nt file in the system32 folder.

Just copy the “autoexec.nt” file from C:\windows\repair into your C:\windows\system32 folder and that should fix the problem.

There’s a Layer Offset example in the docs that explains how to change the reference point. It’s called “Break”.

Over 90% of the problems people have with pIllusion are due to video driver issues. Try running with software rendering and see if the crashes stop.

Start – Programs – particleIllusion 3 – run with software rendering

If this fixes the problem, then it is indeed a video driver issue. Since you’re using the latest drivers, if they’re “beta” drivers, try using the latest drivers that are “released” or “qualified” (they are probably not the newest drivers).

Look at the new demo reel on the wondertouch site. There’s a short clip in the middle of the reel that shows a “matrix”-like effect.

  • Yes, pIllusion AE will load all existing IL3 and IEL library files. I’m also hoping to have it be able to load project files as well, although that probably won’t be in the initial release.

  • Ok, good. Even though the Mac version is 3.0.0, it still loads 3.0.1a libraries. Version number differences between the Win and Mac versions will always be an issue I think.

Now only if you’re drooling as much after you see them…

Try switching to software rendering for the particles. Don’t remember where that option is… prefs?

My experience with the combustion implementation of pIllusion is quite limited — most of that work was done almost 4 years ago (yikes!)

I think it’s really good. Nice layering of pIllusion effects. Suggestions on making it even better:

    1) Render with a light source that follows the position of the glowing emitter that moves around the letters. This will make it appear that the emitter is providing the light.

    2) The letters are quite clear and sharp when further away, then when they’re in place they’re wavy and blurry. They should be harder to see when further away, and more clear when close.
