Can I get an alpha channel with AVI?
Posted by Mandyyjobs on August 20, 2005 at 4:07 pmI was reading about the alpha channel with TGA, but can I get it with a movie file – avi, mpg, mov?

August 20, 2005 at 5:23 pmNo, not with AVI. If you’re using the Mac version of pIllusion (SE or 3.0) you can create a QuickTime movie with an alpha channel though (if you select a compressor that supports it, and have the number of colors set correctly).

August 21, 2005 at 2:51 amI did the shaking for that in 3dsmax, just because that enabled me to add the shake to the video clip as well, by bringing my final render from pI, placing it on a plane, and then animating a noisy shake on the camera. The same thing could be done in any 3D program or a compositor, but shaking the video in pI isn’t really possible.
But you could use the Offset function to shake the particles in a scene. Just scrub a few frames ahead, click the offset a little bit off to the side of the center, move another two frames, move it to the other side, etc, until a second or two later you place it back to the center of the stage.
