There is a bug in the Background Image dialog that always shows the “end frame” as the last frame in the sequence. If you change it to a lower value and click OK, the value will be used.

When you open the dialog again, it will show the wrong value, and I think you need to change it again to whatever value you need.

Select a single image, and if pIllusion detects it as part of a sequence, it will tell you. It’s pretty particular about naming though — the sequence must be in the format filenamexxxxxx.etx Where “xxxxx” is a number sequence that uses leading zeros. For instance, test0001.tga and test0002.tga make a sequence.

Have you checked the quickstart page?

Image, sequence, movie — pIllusion refers to them all as “background images”.

You can’t add attachments to a post, but you can include references to files on a server. So if you can upload your files somewhere, you can include a link to them in the post.

You can also embed an image into a post, but again it’s just a reference to an image file on a server somewhere else. For instance, if you have found an image of an explosion that you want to show people, you can embed it here:

To do this, copy the image address, then click the little camera icon above (between the “U” and “L” icons), then paste the image address in.

Do the final render in pIllusionRender. On Windows, run it from the Start – Programs – particleIllusion 3 menu.

On Mac… pIllusionRender isn’t released yet. Hopefully in the next couple of weeks.

  • I would say use it whenever you have “Soft” edges on particles.

Aharon is better at this subject than I am.

Use “regular” instead of “high-quality” motion blur. I’m trying to figure out why some people are having this problem with HQ MB.

I honestly do not know which is better for pIllusion. The fastest card I have is the GeForce GO 6800, and it’s quite good for pI3. The 2 solutions you mentioned are even faster (I think), so I doubt you’ll be disappointed with either.

A few years back I was seeing better performance from “game-level” cards than I was from the expensive DCC cards, but I don’t think that’s an issue any more.

I do know that any card that has excellent performance with games will have excellent performance with pI3 though. I personally wouldn’t spend $1200 on a card just for pI3. If you have other DCC apps that would benefit, then yes, but for only pI3 those cards are probably overkill.

Why is working with an image sequence instead of an AVI a pain? Every application I know that supports movies and image sequences makes no distinction between the two. Once you load an image sequence into the application, you can’t tell the difference between it and a movie file.

Here’s how you do it in Premiere Pro:

In case people are wondering, Matt contacted me off-forum about this, and we determined that the SIT file was the problem.

I’ll have to switch these files to ZIP, since the ZIP version worked fine.
