That’s how you do it though — change the particle shape (image).

Sometimes due to an OpenGL glitch or something, the particles on the stage lose their textures, so show as colored squares (or rectangles) only. When this happens, I just open the emitter properties dialog then click “cancel” to close it right away. This forces the stage window OpenGL to “reset”.

If that doesn’t fix the problem, I’m not sure what else to suggest — except maybe if the particle size is too big it’s filling the whole stage.

and then… change the particle shape (image) to “basic blur” or something like that.

It’s not dead — it will be released this spring.

You’ll start hearing more about it in the next couple of months.

That’s only a problem because of the “off by 2” issue. It goes away when the off by 2 problem is fixed.

  • There’s no “preserve audio” function in SE, nor in the Mac version of 3.0, nor in the Windows version of 3.0. (It has been removed in the latest Windows version updates.)

    So your workflow should be:

    1) Render your footage as a quicktime movie in FC, using any compression you want (you’ll use the footage as reference only)

    2) load this into particleIllusion (the Mac version does not support AVI)

    3) add your particle effects

    4) when you’re finished with the particles, turn off the bg footage (click the “bg” icon), then render as a QuickTime movie, Animation codec, highest quality and number of colors, then check the “save alpha” option to save an alpha channel.

    5) bring your particles into FC for final compositing with the rest of your footage.

The output size warning message is because your stage window is not large enough to fit the output size you want at 100% zoom. Just make the stage window larger.

There’s no Z value in particleIllusion, so no. (It’s ignored.)

BTW, you don’t need to edit the clipboard data any more with the 3.0.2 (and 3.0.3) releases.

I think you’ll need to use one of the “lava” type emitters. The only way to get the smoothness is to make the particles blend together, and the way to do that is with “intense” particles. But the end result may need quite a bit of post work to get it looking syrupy.

Only other option is to use a fluid simulation application.

Is the “T” icon turned on for the layer? If so, turn it off and see if the video shows.

If not, please give more details about the format of the video.

December 14, 2007 at 1:43 pm in reply to: Scale Project Question

You have to scale up to 1920 x 1440 (or whatever), then use the Project Settings to decrease the height (crops off the top and bottom). Or scale up to ____ x 1080, then use Project Settings to increase the width to 1920 (adds to the sides).
