I can go mad for just colour labels even – if only because they propagate really visually into the ppro timeline. adobe have a nice colour vibrancy going there.

depending on the thing – for a corpo short-ish vid with interviewees, I might colour label the interviewees – you start to remember who purple and red is on the timeline, and it also makes the timeline look a bit more space age and reassuringly organised in general. I also tend to leave a colour just for temp scratch audio or stuff I want to remember is still knocking around on the timeline.

it’s odd isn’t it? I don’t think its directorial control per se – but cuaron feels running tangential to beckett in the places he demanded actors to go.

Beckett was particularly keen that there be both a symmetry and an artificiality to the set

Beachball. Eventually I got Premiere Pro CC to open. Imported a bunch of episodes of a show. For a while they wouldn’t play at all. Eventually they did.
So I made some quick test edits into the timeline. You forget a lot of what used to be habitual when you go back to track editing. The biggest was dropping a clip onto another clip just blows it away. There’s no way I’m going back to that.”

tbf parts of that sound surprisingly weird john. taken it total – it could verge on unlikely.
That’s a quite extreme description. I just spent a first fortnight with that software on a project with a wide variety of codec sources on a two year old machine.
it maybe burped three times. coming off 7 I genuinely found the timeline seriously responsive given I was using it in open codec mode with no pre-transcoding?

are you really sure that the above is an accurate description of your experience of the detestable subscription? again – i was on a pretty poor machine giving it not many favours and I never once saw anything close to what you are describing.

you have me beat there. still – you really do need some keyboard shortcuts for track height – seriously, that is just insane – or maybe even the sensory thrill that is running your finger up the magic mouse to expand and contract tracks with millimetre precision. ala ppro cc – 🙂

also, and just for kicks, pancaking timelines for selects sourcing is something I’m personally getting rather quite seriously into. it’s one of the rare times I feel smart. The adobe premiere interface kind of is a magnetic meccano set par excellence.

at the risk of exposing my serious level of ignorance – can’t you do the same with an altdrag in ppro cc – in that it activates all the edit points for edit trimming stuff? at least for dragging and keyboard nudging? I randomly came across that using it the last two weeks – i couldn’t think of anything intelligent to do with it, but I did repeat the action a few times. mess about with it a bit.

I could be wrong again – but ppro cc more or less has this now right – the four up and dynamic jkl? again i poke at it with the monkey stick – but I’m sort of sure that lot is there now?

Also there is a thing – ppro cc has a feature i half adore – when you go to drag and vertically reset the video component of a VA clip – it does not bounce the audio component down the audio track as a mirror move like in FCP7 – presumably someone will tell me I could have always done that in 7, and I’m a moron, but well, if there was, I never knew… but PPro views a drag vertical reordering of video as its own thing. its nice.

there is something of a halfway house to X i find in the way ppro treats audio as a lozenge in its world, and video as a lozenge in its world. ppro does seem to view them as two kingdoms.
