Interesting, seeing more of the floor projection technique. My takeaway from this one was that using it as a pseudo screen wasn’t nearly as visually impactful as altering the “reality” of the floor. Madonna’s 2013 Superbowl halftime show used this gag to stunning effect.

It also seems that it’s at least a tiny bit following the heritage of the huge high-lumen video from the Vancouver Olympics opening ceremonies. IIRC, they had 30 20k projectors in play – then of course the amazing Bejing 2012 games that pumped that WAY up with the living scroll thing.

Still, really, really cool to see this stuff come down a bit into the realm of something that can be a part of a regular stadium show – rather than a once very couple of year global event.

I think I mentioned before that I saw a Sade concert some years back where they used a pair of big Christies to do essentially all the sets for the show. On-stage, nothing but bare walls when the concert started. Must save a ton of trucking fees to move the show from place to place.

that a really complex bit of high value editing and mograph with 3D work can find a high budget screen and audience while playing – on the floor of a sports hall – is a bit different to where things were a while ago to be fair.

Reminds me of the problem with those amazing 3D sidewalk art pieces. You have to be in one specific spot for it to work. If you’re on the wrong side of this it just wouldn’t make any sense.

It’s a few years old, but the video projection show for the 600 year anniversary of the astrological clock tower in Prague is still one of my favorites examples of this type of work.
